I need to find out the command to go to a URL which requires username and password using IE and then close the IE window after 10 seconds. I have worked out the URL part but I need to know how to enter the username and password in the command itself.

Do you know what kind of authentication the page requires? You wont be able to do that with batch files alone.. thats for sure. You'll need some other utility or program to authenticate.

What exactly are you trying to achive?

Yeah, if you know another language that is a little more powerful and flexible and has more options then it is possible. Then you can just use the batch file to open that program.

    Thank you for your reply.

I am trying to go to a https site. I do not want to give the username and password everytime I click the batch file, that is why I was looking for a command like 'START "c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Iexplore.exe" https:\\.......... ' I am stuck up here. If there is a way where I can specify the authentication with the username and password in the command line itself that would really be great.

Isn't there an option to remember the username and password with a cookie or something.

yes there is, but it prompts me with that OK Cancel window. I am trying to automate it for everyday at Midnight. If there is some other tool through which I can download a file from https site and then delete it from the server with authentication that would be great. Thanks for you replies.

Yeah you won't be able to do that with a batch file. You would have to use something else. Thats just too complicated for batch files.
