Strange rippling screen abnormality

Hi. This is my first post on Major Geeks.

My problem is this:

My screen keeps doing this strange wobbling thing that kind of resembles water ripples. It is usually OK when I turn it on but within 15 or so minutes it begins. When it started it was just a thin line at the top of the screen but now it takes up a larger part, sometimes about 40% of the screen.

It appears on my display screen and on pages I open up. It also appears in safe mode.

I run AVG free, Adware, Spybot, Bazooka, Spyware blaster, A-squared and Swat it. I also always update these before I run them.

This has also coincided with problems with my AVG- the email scanner keeps deactivating (everytime).

When the screen get bad I shutdown the computer.

Can anyone help? It would be greatly appreciated.

start by trying a diff monitor on the system.
if it does the same, try diff video card.
make sure all fans etc. are free of dust inside, and are running up to speed.

 

Thanks for the reply. My PC is a laptop so I cannot change the monitor.

I will check the fan but, excuse my ignorance, how do I change the video card? (I do not know what it is)

one cannot change the video either.

 

Can you connect an extra monitor to your laptop? Most have an external vga port. If an external monitor displays ok, then it looks like you have a hardware problem
