    Hi,

I'm having a major issue booting my Dell laptop in normal mode with Windows 7. After I type in my password, the welcome just keeps loading and loading. I got to the point of waiting one hour before force rebooting the laptop in safe mode. However, I have no issues booting in safe mode.

When I checked my Event Viewer, I see a few error messages. Here are the following 10 error messages that I hope someone can assist me with:

    1) Event 10005, DistributedCom - DCOM got error "1068" attempting to start the service fdPHost with arguments "" in order to run the server:

I've already run my MalwareBytes and AntiSpyware scans in safe mode and there are no malicious items detected in any of the scans. I also have Avast (free edition) as my antivirus. Generally, I've followed safe net surfing habits, so I sort of doubt it's a malware issue.

I would really appreciate any expert advice on how to fix this booting issue. I can't keep working on safe mode forever!

Boot into safe mode and try uninstalling Avast from Control Panel > Programs and Features. There's also an uninstaller available at http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility if this doesn't work. Use safe mode with networking if you haven't got access to another computer.
After uninstallation, see if you can now boot as normal. Check the event viewer to see if the previous errors are still reported.
If all goes well, download the latest version of Avast and install.

    Hi nullptr,

I managed to uninstall Avast, and I was able to boot normally -- though it still took about 20-30 seconds for that Welcome screen to load. Perhaps I'm being a bit sensitive?

Can you please explain why Avast would create this error?

I looked at my Event Viewer, and I notice there is one more error:

Event 1, VDS Basic Provider - Unexpected failure. Error code: 490@01010004

Any one know how I can fix this error? Thanks!

    Hi,
I'm not answering about this topic but your other post about a slow laptop. (And as it's posted in the specialist forum, I can't answer there.)
I guess you'll still receive a mail that I sent a message here.

So, I had the same problem, my laptop has become very slow for the last few weeks. My laptop is 8 years old so I was too starting to look for a new one. I saw that Tim said there was no malware on your laptop either. I found an article yesterday that HP installed a program a month ago and many people complained that it made their system very slow. The article told to delete this program. I have an HP laptop and I checked, this program was indeed installed on my system on the 17 November (I guess it was an automatic update). I deleted it last night and it seems my laptop is quicker indeed this morning. So if you have an HP too, it's worth trying. The program's name is HP TouchPoint Analytics Client. Maybe this solves your problem too.

    Regards,
    Angie

No, I don't have an SSD drive. But as I said, it's quite an old laptop.

I know it's an old thread. I wanted to write a message to the owner (Drift King) but I am not allowed to start a conversation with him and I didn't see any other way how to send him a message, so I looked for an old post of him which wasn't in the specialist one...

But it doesn't matter any more because I just read his post and I found out that he has a Dell laptop, not an HP. *g*
