    Hi,

I come to you as I know you guys are the best. I have had help from you in deleting the google redirecting virus.

My operating system : Window xp pro - 32 bit.

I have no idea where this came from but I really need your help.

No matter what I do, I can't seem to get rid of GreatArcadeHits.com. I have pop-ups coming up all over the place. I have followed all instructions for removal but none work.

    Can you please help.

    Nancy

Be more specific. You mean none of the tools ran? Or do you mean that even after running the tools, things have not improved? (If so, you need to attach the logs) Let me know what is happening.

The instructions for removal if followed are on the Great Arcade Hits site. I removed the program from my control panel, clicked on the uninstall icon from Great Arcade website, ran cc cleaner, malwarebytes anti-malware and spark trust (which I found is not free) and did not complete fixing the problems found. I cleared the cache/ temporary internet files in Internet Explorer and Google Chrome (my default browser). Nothing seems to work.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by tools and which of them I should be running.

With that said, at the moment I cannot do a system restore. The tools icon on internet explorer is not working. The error message is "Windows cannot find 'C:/Program Files/Messenger/msmgs.exe'."

There are no other error messages to be noted here.

    What else can I do?

    Nancy

    Thank you for your help.

I ran all of the tools listed on your reply. I ran most of these yesterday. Excluding MGTools. The logs for the run today are attached.

Please know that I am still experiencing pop-ups from GreatArcadeHits.com

I look forward to your reply.

Thank you so much for your help.

You are running more than one antivirus. You must uninstall one of these immediately before we continue!!
    • PC Tools AntiVirus Free 9.1
    • Microsoft Security Essentials

    Download and run OTM.

Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    • Right-click OTM.exe And select " Run as administrator " to run it.
    • Paste the following code under the [IMG] area. Do not include the word Code.

    Code:
    :Files
    C:\Documents and Settings\Nancy\Local Settings\Application Data\PCHealth
    C:\Documents and Settings\Nancy\Application Data\535426afcc6da15d0f01a422
    C:\Program Files\pcreg
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Application Data\SearchProtect
    C:\Program Files\Mysearchdial

    :reg
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{CFF4DB9B-135F-47c0-9269-B4C6572FD61A}]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{D14EF831-F5B4-48EE-A0A7-10C45FE1A453}]

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large [IMG] button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it into a text file to ATTACH into your next reply.

NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and attach the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Give Ccleaner a run, not the registry scanner, just the cleaner itself to be rid of a chunk of temp files/folders.

[IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now! If you still have pop ups, you need to say which browser(s)

I have completed all of your instructions.

The first time that I "moved" the files when operating OTM. A window opened stating that Great Arcade Hits crashed. I thought that was the end. I hit the "X" on that window and proceeded to reboot manually as per OTM instructions. I actually repeated that process as I did not copy the log. That is why there is two logs from OTM.

With that, I am still get pop-ups from Great Aracade Hits. I am running Google Chrome. I also have Internet Explorer installed. Should I uninstall one of them?

Please know that you help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Nancy

PS. All logs attached as requested.

No, you should be able to have as many browsers installed as you want. Internet Explorer is not too straight forward to sort out. So let me know, is that affected or is it just Google Chrome?

For Chrome try this: Reset Google Chrome to Defaults

Answer my questions and let me know how you get on.

I could not find the tab to reset google chrome. However, I did find "extension: GreatArcadeHits" in the "view background pages (1)" under the chrome menu. I tried to delete it but there was no option to delete.
    What else can I do?

In Google Chrome, select Tools, and click on Extensions, find the arcadehits and click on the trash can icon.

    Does that work?

    Run this...

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.

    • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
    • Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
    • Click on the Scan button.
    • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
    • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
    • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
    • Attach the logfile to your next next reply.
    • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

Well it seems that Great Arcade Hits has been defeated...lol...thank God.

I deleted it in Google extensions along with a couple of other items I didn't want.

The report from Adwcleaner is attached.

Quick question: Should I re-install PC Tools or is Microsoft Essentials a better anti-virus tool? Maybe you have a better suggestion.

In any case, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help as majorgeeks have help me a couple of times before. A simple thank you doesn't seem to be enough. I don't have much money but I will definitely send something to help you guys out as your service is invaluable to people like me.

    In Gratitude,
    Nancy

    Awesome!
    It failed to attach unfortunately.

    Go with MSSE. ;)

Nancy that's so kind of you, but honestly, just spreading the word about us to friends and family would also be very much appreciated! :)
