I can't seem to get rid of the Antimalware/Virus Alert! virus. I have run through the steps in the READ ME FIRST post and i can't even update the spyware programs because I have no internet connection. I have tried to connect to the internet wirelessly and plugged in and nothing works. I am writing from a different computer.

I am considering a reformat; but, before I do that, does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Tom

    What OS are you running?

Is it possible to download some tools, burn to a disc and then load them on the infected machine?

I'm running Windows XP (SP2). I downloaded the suggested programs on a different computer, burned them on a cd, and transferred them onto my laptop, but my problem was I couldn't check for updates because I couldn't connect to the internet. Ad-aware said it was like 487 days old and SpyBot wouldn't even run.

If there are other programs for fixes, please let me know.

    Thanks.

So I think Ad-Aware got rid of the virus, but I still can't connect to the internet and I am getting no wireless networks found when I know they exist.

Any suggestions? Thanks for the help so far.

Did you have any luck getting SpyBot to run? And, are you trying to run it in normal boot mode or safe mode with networking?

Have you tried connecting to the net again directly instead of via wireless since successfully running AdAware?

I have run both Ad-Aware and Spybot in safe mode. I have also tried connecting to the internet via wireless and ethernet cable. I can't understand why I can't connect.

I am not an expert in Malware removal and just help out here and there where I can if our Malware Fighters are not online so that hopefully, users have been able to complete more of the steps and are ready for fixes when the guys sign in to answer threads.

At this point I'll have to step out of this one and leave it for BJ or one of the other Malware Fighters to follow up on. I expect someone will be along before to much longer.:)

Well, looks like I'm back again after all.:) Another member here at MajorGeeks (Matacumbie) has a suggestion as your problem reminds him of something he has seen many times before.

Here is part of the message he sent me.
Did or do you have Norton products on your computer? If so we do in fact have the removal tools here at MajorGeeks.:) Might be worth a shot if it applies?....

As Abby previously asked, do you or have you had anything Norton installed on your system?

Also, can you attach a HJT log from this machine?
