I'm looking at different computer cases for my "work in progress" new computer. Many come without power sources and those that do generally have upgrade options.

I'd like to hear about what you think are good 450-550 watt power units that are quiet, reliable and well regarded. I've read about Thermaltake, Enermax and Antec, but don't have a feel for "what's the pick of the litter".

Which brands are highly regarded? Which ones do you like?

    Thanks,

personally i would recomend antec or the 500W X-Connect
the x-connect has modular cables, so better airflow, and its a nic PSU

upgraded ps last year and went to a local store to buy a antec but ended up bringing home a thermaltake 420watt. Its been going strong ever since. It is quiet and has 9 molex connectors so thats not a problem when you put in a few more drives. Just my opinion.

Currently using 500w x-connect ultra modular psu; and i love it. Has detachable cables so theres no clogs or restriction to airflow. It also has a GREAT finish and the cables are extremly well post mfg with covering and special molex connector for easier insert/remove.

I have 2 Enermax EG465P-VE FMAs in two of my systems and for the money(around $85.00) they are without a doubt the very best made. They have 35A on the 12+ rail which makes them the leader in this area.(for under $100.00)

Well I suggest doing alot of research for anything you're looking at. I personally have had two Antec True 430's quit on me. First time it took the MB & CPU with it.

At the moment I'm running a Channel Well 425watter & I can't say anything bad about it. It's a cheapo ( $25 ) run of the mill thing, but it's been completely stable since installing it. I've added a second 80mm fan to it & sleeved the cables.

The PSU is the "most overlooked" item in a computer. Do your research. ;)

    Hi:

I've had good luck with SPI Sparkle and Enermax in the past but if I were to buy a PSU today I would order this one:
    Antec NeoPower 480 Modular
    480 watt ATX12V v2.0 power supply
