I think I am done using MBAM

This new UI looks like the exact malware that clients hire me to remove. Not only is it kind of embarrassing to use, but it misleads users that stuff that looks like this is safe to use. Naturally that is rarely the case.

    Although, it DOES get results.

cleaned my daughters pc with it just yesterday and was pretty much the only thing that found the over 500 pieces of malware on the computer.

what would you replace it with? I love trying other things that i havent yet.

My personal pc is only protected by MSE, Spybot, and spywareblaster.

but, of course, i also pay attention to what i download and where i go ;)

From what I've read on another forum, the new version of MBAM should have been a longer time in beta, released way too soon.

That's why I will wait for at least 6 months or more before trying out the new version. Have saved an *old* 1.75 version of MBAM on my PC and still using the very same version. Still working fine in updating etc.

Yep, I've seen a few pics of the new version and looks not too attractive to me.

adwcleaner did a much more thorough job for me today.

Agree about the GUI, Adry. Though can't compare AdwCleaner to MBAM. MBAM cleans up a lot of serious crap that AdwCleaner will not even detect. :)

    Cheers..

I must admit it still does just as good a job but I DO NOT like the new gui. A whole new sticky had to be written because of it in the malware removal forum faq. Much prefer the older versions, more smooth, tidy and neater looking.

I dislike some of the new terms like "Hyper scan" it makes me feel like I want to go to a rave. :-D But as said... still loving the results it gives each time.

Agreed. The new UI is awful. I'm taking it for a test drive now. :)

Just posting you are done using MBAM is pretty pointless.
    Could you post reasons why?
Maybe MBAM will read and improve.

Its only pointless if you didn't read what I said...

    I don't use MBAM.

What does the UI look like? Do you have a screen shot?

    It runs well enough.

My bad there, I just did not consider that you put the UI over the functionality. You certainly have a valid point. Maybe just stick to an older version and update the definitions?

Thats not a bad idea. It just rubbed me the wrong way yesterday when a client was watching my every move and all of a sudden I installed something that looked just like the stuff he wanted removed, LOL.

It gives the wrong impression and the UI designers really should have thought about it more carefully.

Funny thing is, adwcleaner removed the worst baddies of the bunch that mbam missed.

Try JRT by thisisu. Excellent as well. Often cleans stuff missed by AdwCleaner. Both are often used in conjunction, as one catches stuff the other misses.

ive often said, if you use just 2 your doing it wrong ;)

i clean with no less than 3 to 5 malware progs, plus at least 2 if not more virus ones.

If i were paid to do this, id probably use more and have paid subs.

I use whats needed, and don't go overkill unless I have to.

I try to save them money because I am doing it hourly, not by the job. Keeps them happy and referring me to others :)

Did your web site help? I'm thinking your reputation precedes you, what with your knowledge and all. :)

Website hasn't helped a bit, LOL. It has all been reputation and word of mouth so far.

That said, its moving to a weekend business starting this week. I picked up a software development position with a local company :-D

Congrats on the new job ;) I hope it works out for you :-D

+1 to hating the new MBAM GUI :(
FWIW I usually run MBAM in safe mode first then Spybot S&D and this seems to clear the majority of problems :cool

Yeah, resume helped, as well as portfolio. This is the first time that someone actually looked at it instead of throwing my resume in the trash.

I agree that it does resemble a lot of the fake AVs and AMs out there so looks too close for comfort for many who would not know fake from real.

I do also think the GUI now is a bit sneaky and not in a bad way as I like the company and what it has done for malware removal, BUT and a big BUT is the main screen (Dashboard) that shows the two red X's to tease you to buy premium, this looks to me as if a novice user could be fooled into thinking the malware scanner is showing a bad thing, you need to fix. Where in essence its teasing you to buy the premium version, that I do not like.

However GUI aside, I do think it still does the job well.

Jeremy great news on the new position/job so congrats on that and I wish you well.

Agree 100% on the GUI . . . been using it for a few weeks now and despise it.

Congrats on the job, Adrynalyne. :)

Growing on me more and I still do not like the GUI notifications to the Licence and the red X stating buy premium is not great and a bit sneaky! I know that companies need to make money but as they offer a free version the notification is ambiguous.

But its scanning ability is still superb!

Good idea, Oma. I still have the 1.75 installer which is much smaller than 2.xx.

Compared to the previous Pro version on Windows XP, it seems that ver. 2.0.1 Pro is using about 20+MB less memory than the older version.
I'm referring to the active protection.

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed any memory or performance differences?

  38. oma

    oma MajorGeek

It seems that you are using the paid version of MBAM? I'm just using the free 1.75 version and from what I read somewhere some time ago that the old version will still work for 1 year after MBAM released their paid for version 2. Hopefully by that time all kinks will have been ironed out. Wilders Security has a huge thread about MBAM's new version which I read in its entirety some time ago. That's why I decided to wait a while.

    Sorry, that isn't quite right.

These numbers are for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO with Real Time Protection activated.

What I found was that ver. 1.75 on Windows XP uses more memory than either ver. 1.75 or ver. 2.0.1 on my Windows 7 machine.

For version 1.75 on Windows XP Home sp3 32 bit:
    -----------------------------------------------
    mbamservice.exe 117,080K
    mbamgui.exe 10,476K
    mbamscheduler.exe 5,524K

For version 1.75 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit:
    --------------------------------------------------
    mbamservice.exe 52,944K
    mbamgui.exe 2,556K
    mbamscheduler.exe 1,872K

For version 2.0.1 on Windows 7
    ------------------------------
There were (2) processes of about 55K and 25K each, so about 80,000K total.
I think the one missing was mbamscheduler.exe

After uninstalling 2.0.1, there was a driver still being loaded - don't remember the name.
