~e5.0001 process eating up CPU

A few days ago I started having problems opening up some games on the PC , namely Medieval 2 , Rome TW and The Movies. I noticed the ~e5.0001 process in Task Manager was using around 95% of the CPU while the game .exe file was getting very little. I have researched this process and I know it has something to do with copy protection and runs in the background normally with some applications , BUT it should not be hogging all the CPU and up until a few days ago all the games were running perfectly so I can only assume something has come in with a download or a bad e-mail and corrupted the process. I scanned with AVG , SpyBot and AdAware to start with but nothing was detected, so I found this site and have been working through some of the remedies. I have worked through the malware removal guide ,using CCleaner , SpyBot(again) and Counterspy but again nothing has been detected. I have followed the rest of the processes and have saved the relevant files. There seems to be some problems there from what I can see but could do with a more experienced eye to dig a little deeper. Hope you can help.

    Thanks

Also you need to make sure you are following the directions for running ShowNew properly and that no error messages are being seen as dscribed on the download page. It was not run properly and the log is not complete. Please check that you extracted all files from the ZIP file and ran the .bat file from a Windows Explorer window as you did with GetRunKey. Then attach a new log.

Your logs are clean! Based on what I read, that process and similar filenames are related to the games you are playing. It is either related to the copy protection schemes or something to do with flash videos. Either way it is not malware.

I have fixed it !!! I have un-installed System Mechanic 7 which I had running and everything is running normally now ! I thought I'd uninstall some recent trial versions I was using after running RootKey Revealer and Kaspersky Anti Virus and still nothing came up . Seems to have done the trick , the ~e5.0001 process is still there in Task Manager(as it should be) but is now using a normal amount of CPU and allowing the game .exe file to run properly. I don't know whether this was just a conflict or something malicious in the SysMech7 program I downloaded.

Anyway , thanks for your help earlier in the week, much obliged :)

You're welcome. I'm happy to hear you figured out your problem, and also that it was not malware as I had indicated.
