Windows defender deactivated

    Hi, I¨m running windows 8.1, I´ve noticed since a couple of days, a warning messige in the notification area saying that windows defender protection against spyware and antivirus are deactivated, when i click on the "activate now" button it opens the folder "C:\WINDOWS\system32", I noticed that the windows defender service is inactivated but if I try to activate, it will stay inactivated. Is this some kind of virus or do I have to download windows defender somewhere again?? I have avira antivirus but I´m not sure it´s working, thanks for any help!

    Once you install a third party AV software, windows defender is automatically disabled.

    But I have Avira AV since more than a year now, and this notification message from windows defender was never an issue

    yes I guess it is, in the task manager it shows several avira processes and services running background

    If Avira is running, Windows Defender is turned off. If you are just seeing this message, possibly Avira is not actually running. Have you done a scan with it?

    I´ve just run a full scan with avira AV and it detected and quarenteened a lot of viruses, after that the windows defender notifications are gone, thanks
