Laptop freezes--"Resolving host..."

Please see link below for what I've done so far according to the "Malware Removal" forum. They suggested posting here. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Some things to try.

From a command prompt type in

ipconfig /all > results.txt | notepate results.txt

attach the results.txt file here.

From the command line

Ping majorgeeks.com

Do you get 74.50.120.86?

Are you connecting wired or wireless? Have you tried the other option? (I suggest this to rule out problems with the hardware).

I also see this is a known problem, at least in the past with Chrome.

What DNS are you currently using? Some people had success changing the DNS to Open DNS
208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

It could be related to a plugin that isn't playing nice.

 

I confess, I'm an extreme PC noob. How extreme? Can you please tell me how to get to the command prompt you mentioned? Yeah, that extreme. :-o

 

1. Click on the start button
2. In the run box type cmd
3. When you see cmd.exe at the top right click it and select Run as Administrator.

 

OK, I was able to Ping Majorgeeks.com and I did get the number you listed. However, I couldn't get my ipconfig results to show up in a text file. Maybe I entered it wrong?

Just use:

ipconfig /all > ipall.txt
notepad ipall.txt
