Alright, im goin to built a computer.. but im not sure if all of these parts will work together fine, here is the list of parts i have for my computer..

Case - Rosewill Mid Tower Case
Hard Drive - Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600JB 160GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100
Video Card - eVGA 128-A8-N343-AX Geforce 6800 128MB DDR AGP
    Power Supply - Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W
    Memory - CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400
    Processor - AMD Athlon 64 2800+ Newcastle 800MHz FSB Socket 754

Ok, thats all the parts i have.. im goin to use my sound card i have in the computer im using now which i thing will work fine, and ill use my CD-ROM drive from this computer... but im paying $632.99 for all of this on neweeg... so is this all the parts i will need to built a computer computer? and will all these parts work fine? ... and heres one big thing i missed.. a motherboard, i dont want to pick one out because i dont know if it will work with all my parts that i have picked.. i guess i shoulda payed more attention in computer repair class :p

Hi m8 this is just about the best 754 mobo you can get in terms of performance and overclocking,it will work great with all your parts-

    ttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136147

the 754 is the old style of cpu,939 pins is the new style and will offer support for all newly released amd cpu's and the new dual cores, have you tried to juggle your parts around so you can fit in a new 939 socket mobo with a pci-e video interface,"pci-e is the new standard for video cards"?

oohhh its old? well should i get a 939 pin processor then and a mother board that will work with all of my things? ... but if i get that mobo, everything will work correctly and ill have no problem with anything going bad?

Its hard for me to work out what you can afford being from the UK,try this Do your shopping again get a proccessor that has a 939 socket,a motherboard that has a 939 socket AND has a PCI-E video port for your video card, then look for PCI-E video card, the one you have chosen is available in PCI-E form.

I will have a quick look too,its much easier if copy the links to the parts you want from new egg and add them to your post

    http://newegg.com/

    ;)

EDIT the other parts are fine.

i will try to find a mobo with 939 pin socket and a processor.. but i dont think i want a PCI-E... is that PCI-Express??.. id rather just stick with APG

like.. isnt PCI-Express slower then APG?? and can i added them 3 items to my list and take out the old mobo, processor, and video card and everything will work fine?... its almost the same price, its just a lil more but i can afford them parts.. the old price was $732 and the new price with the new parts is $784.. so its not that much more really.. but like i said earlier.. is PCI-Express slower then APG?? i thought APG was the best.. considering they just made a new graphics card for APG.. that new nvida card.. right?

NO.Its a little confusing,PCI are the ports where you put your sound card, modem ect,PCI-Express as it is known is the new standard, that has took over from agp they have practically stopped making agp video cards now all the new ones use pci-express ports which are well over double the speed of agp ;) Yes you can just add those items they will have all the modern interfaces and about 5-10% more performance than the parts you had chosen before ;)

    Any more questions?Feel free I'm bored :)

oohh alright thats awesome.. so all of them parts i picked out plus your parts will work fine to make a complete computer? all i need is a OS and i can use the computer right?

    YUP ;)
BTW if you look pci-express on a mobo is called pci-e x 16 and agp is called agp x 8,so in theory the port has over double the speed enabling you to upgrade the video card to a much higher model in the future with full support from your motherboard.

all modern parts for not much more,Have a go at posting your final decision for all your parts as other members may be able to fine tune the list much more,a few members have had some great deals from tiger direct and may be able to shave a tidy sum off the final price.

Just copy the address from the address bar at the top when you are looking at the product and paste it to your post ;)

ohh... i always just thought the PCI-E just made it so you can have better hardware componets on there then the PCI and the x16 just meant its still PCI but its just x16 and the APG is better then PCI so i just thought like PCI-E x16 is just like the same as AGP x8 and PCI is half the power of AGP... it sounds confusing and im even confusing myself right now so ima stop hahah! :p .... but do yo want me to create my whole list of parts again or create the whole list of parts with the links of all the items included?

This isn't central to the post, but I remember hearing that PCI-E is actually slower than AGP 8x, but it has higher bandwidth, so it is better suited to running.......say, 64-bit OSes and games. It's just a futureproof, and while we still are dominated by 32-bit OSes and stuff, AGP is the deal. Least that's what I heard.

I'm sorry if this reads choppy, I haven't slept in so long I can't spell or put sentances together cohesively. :(

AGP has hit already a wall, look at all new mobos and they are all PCI-E, I have no idea what you mean that PCI-E is slower but has more bandwidth.. AGP is 8x, and PCI-E is 16x in terms of how much info can travel through it, other then that there is no way of rating them.

Hey man, I didn't claim to be an expert. I said that it's just something I heard

There are some mobo 939 support AGP card. But some VGAcards at highe model as 6xxx use AGP slot is so expensive then PCI-E, so the best way I think you should by mobo support PCI-E. ( SLI )
BTW I remember Bios star produce mobo support for both AGP and PCI-E but it is not a good mobo in performance. ;)

    Video Card - MSI NX6800-TD128E Geforce 6800 128MB DDR PCI Express x16

Its not a true form of AGP, its limited by 1/3rd the performance of agp8x

    ooh
I meant that Bios star mobo get 2 slots on mobo, one for AGP and one for PCI-E,. But you use one for running computer only.

are you telling me to get AGP then? is that better? ahh im lost now lol

  20. A.Son

    A.Son Sergeant

You maybe lose at this time but it is not demode in the future...
BTW, I have compare between 6600GT PCI-E and 6600Gt AGP on 3D05: (base on my computer Sig)
    6600GT AGP core/mem 614/1160 3D05 get 4144 points on M2500+@2g5
    6600GT PCI-E core/mem 615/1220 3D05 get 4040 points on a64 3000+@2g7
Both of them get heatsink mode.
    :D

Once and for all your buying a pci-e board and card period thats an order :) All those parts are the latest parts with the best performance, they all work together GOOD.

Now go to Tigerdirects website and see if you can find those parts any cheaper.

  23. Omegamerc

    Omegamerc MajorGeek

get a PCI-E board, I wouldnt recommend Tiger Direct, I do recommend Newegg.com or monarchcomputers.com (if u dont mind the wait on monarch).

Yeah I know, its not a true AGP slot, its a very weak form of AGP.

When You use one PCI-E it run at 16, when you run at SLI that mean you open it in bios or set it by changing other side of stick card (for Asus mobo)
SLI wil run at 8 for both.

  25. A.Son

    A.Son Sergeant

8x for each one 8x2=16x for both.
