    Hello,

    Our office desktop seemed to be acting funny, so I decided to go through the steps in the "READ & RUN ME FIRST" thread. It seems we have some malware associated with "mysearchdial".

    This is a AMD Phenom II X6 1075T 3.01GHz processor, with 8GB RAM, running W7HP 64 bit w/Service Pack 1; on a SSD. It normally runs very quick, so I could tell something was up.

    Any help with these logs will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks again! :)

    Matt

    Rerun Roguekiller and have it fix these items:
    Code:
    ¤¤¤ Scheduled tasks : 6 ¤¤¤
    [V1][SUSP PATH] MySearchDial.job : C:\Users\Autie\AppData\Roaming\MYSEAR~1\UPDATE~1\UPDATE~1.EXE - /Check [-] -> FOUND
    [V1][SUSP PATH] PriceMeterUpdater.job : C:\Users\Autie\AppData\Roaming\PRICEM~1\UPDATE~1\UPDATE~1.EXE - /Check [-] -> FOUND
    [V2][SUSP PATH] MySearchDial : C:\Users\Autie\AppData\Roaming\MYSEAR~1\UPDATE~1\UPDATE~1.EXE - /Check [-] -> FOUND
    [V2][SUSP PATH] pricemetertask : C:\Users\Autie\AppData\Local\PriceMeter\TEMP\pricemeter.exe [x] -> FOUND
    [V2][SUSP PATH] PriceMeterUpdater : C:\Users\Autie\AppData\Roaming\PRICEM~1\UPDATE~1\UPDATE~1.EXE - /Check [-] -> FOUND
    [V2][SUSP PATH] pricemeterwatcher : "C:\Users\Autie\AppData\Local\PriceMeter\pricemeterw.exe" [7] -> FOUND
    Then rerun Hitman and have it fix all that it found.

    [IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

    Reboot and rescan with both RogueKiller and Hitman and attach the logs.

    Be sure to tell me how things are running.

    Thanks for the quick response, Tim!! You've helped me before, and it is always much appreciated!

    I ran Rogue Killer again, but could only find 4 of the 6 items you said to "fix". I'm assuming you meant to delete, so that's what I did.

    [IMG]

    I ran Hitman, but it says the trial is expired, so it wouldn't let me fix anything.

    [IMG]

    I downloaded and ran Junkware Removal Tool, then rebooted and ran Rogue Killer & Hitman again.

    The three logs are all attached here.

    Thanks again, Tim!!! :-D

    Let's see if we can do this the easy way>

    Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
    • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
      Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
    • Click on the Scan button.
    • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
    • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
    • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
    • Attach the logfile to your next next reply.
    • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

    OK. I ran the scan yesterday. Attached is the log file. I'm not sure what to do next.

    Let it clean what if found. Then rescan with Hitman and attach the new log.

    Here you go. It looks like it didn't remove what Hitman found last time. Maybe I need to uninstall Hitman and remove all traces of it, so I can reinstall it, and be able to renew the trial period. Then I can remove what it found?

    The logs from Hitman & AdwCleaner are attached here.

    Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    • Right-click OTM.exe And select " Run as administrator " to run it.
    • Paste the following code under the [IMG] area. Do not include the word Code.

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large [IMG] button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.

    Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach this log file to your next message.

    I couldn't copy everything in the results window, because OTM had me reboot before I had the chance. After rebooting, there was a log opened with the following text (which appears to be the same text that was in the results window:

    I've also attached the log file here like you asked.

    As a side note: whenever my wife would open Chrome yesterday, an error would pop up that it could not load her profile. Now, that error has gone away. Hopefully that means OTM did the trick?

    Thank you very much for your time and patience with this!! :-D

    Sincerely,
    Matt

    Here is the log from the Hitman scan.

    It looks like everything that's left is in the Google Chrome appdata folders?

    Thanks Tim.

    I couldn't follow the instructions in the above, because of this:

    So I just attached the log here instead. Also, I'm not going to sign into Chrome for now, just in case that has something to do with the problem.

    Again, thank you very much for your time helping me work through all these steps!

    Please let me know what I should do next.

    It appears that the problem is embedded in our Google Chrome accounts.

    I ran Hitman twice. Once before signing into Chrome (which came back clean);

    And again after signing into Chrome with both users (which came back dirty).

    Here is the screenshot of the dirty one:

    [IMG]

    Both logs are attached here.

    Is there any way to clean our Google Chrome accounts?

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Uninstall Chrome, run CCleaner and after a reboot, rescan with Hitman. ATTACH the log.

    You didn't mention whether you want me to sign in to our 2 different Chrome accounts or not.

    Signing in seemed to be the difference in whether the malware introduced itself to our PC or not.

    Please advise.

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Did you uninstall Chrome? DId you run the cleaner? What issues are you having?

    I uninstalled Chrome, ran Ccleaner, rebooted, then ran hitman. Here's what it found:

    Use windows explorer to find:
    C:\Users\Autie\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome

    Tell me if you can manually remove it.

  23. maddog808

    maddog808 Private E-2

    I was able to delete the folder.

    I then rebooted, ran Hitman, and it found no threats.

    The log is attached.

    Should I re-install Chrome, sign in to my Google account, and see if the problem returns?

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Well, I reinstalled Chrome, used it for a few days, then rebooted and ran Hitman. The log is attached here.

    It appears the adware is back.

    Tim,

    Have you ever dealt with malware like this that only shows up after signing in to a Google Chrome account?

    Apparently, it is becoming more widespread. Check out this article:

    http://***********.com/security/201...ome-extensions-to-send-adware-filled-updates/

    Anyway, is this something I should worry enough about to stop using Chrome altogether?

    Thanks,
    Matt

    No hurry.

    FWIW, I don't really notice any ill effects on the PC - yet. ;)

    Thanks so much for checking into it for me.

    Matt

    You can try using Revo Uninstaller to remove Chrome. Then after a reboot, rerun Hitman and attach the log.
