I notice my case cooling fan has two speeds and it only runs on high speed during boot/reboot and low speed when the computer is running. Does this fan ever run at high speed other than during boot/reboot? :confused

Also, is there anything on my PC where I can monitor the operating temp of the CPU?

    Hi

Yes this is correct running of the CPU fan as the fan speed is linked into the heat that's generated by the CPU so when CPU is doing small tasks, say surfing the net it's pretty idle so not much heat and fan is low, when you task the CPU with a powerful task mote heat is generated thus the fan goes louder.

The faster fan on boot is due to the bios not getting to the setting that controls speed until a bit later (few seconds) in the boot sequence

Can use Everest free or speedfan to monitor temps, both available on majorgeeks main download pages (would link but typing this on a mobile phone)
