    Hi,

I was downloading an alleged Active X update yesterday, and a few minutes later my computer crashed. I tried starting it up 5 or 6 times, but it crashes every time a minute or two after logging in. I tried starting it up a few times in safe mode this morning, but as soon as I try to open an application, it crashes. My computer is an HP Pavilion ze4800 laptop running on Windows XP with service pack 2.

Go to safe mode, log in as admin, start, run, msconfig, uncheck startup items, restart pc in normal mode.

    Hi,

I unchecked all the startup items and my machine lasted only a few minutes longer in normal mode before crashing. I was able to freeze the blue screen right before it crashes. The error reads "A driver has overrun a stack-based buffer. This overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this machine." Could this be a virus or a registry problem? If so how would I go about fixing it? When I started up in normal mode I immediately got an Internet security pop-up advising my machine has a M32.Myzor.Fk@yf virus. Does this sound legitimate?

I tried going to two previous system restore points but both failed.

I would suggest another trip to the malware section. :(

Ok, when you tap F8 to safe mode, you can choose "disable automatically restart pc..." so that you can catch the error code in blue screen.

Yup to the malware forum, you go.
