Run once annoying

When I open browser I get directed to the runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx
which is a blank blue screen. I can click on the homepage icon and it will take me to the proper homepage, but I have to do this every time including opening a new tab.
I am running XP2 on IE7..I have been on the info sites and found that
working in regedit can fix, but when I go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
When I hit Main it will not let me open.

Any suggestions......

 

get notepad and copy/paste the following lines:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]

"RunOnceHasShown"=dword:00000001
"RunOnceComplete"=dword:00000001

Give the file a .reg extension and merge it
It should fix the problem, backup your registry anyway..

 

This is somewhat greek to me, although I am sure it is basic for you.
Could you please explain this as I do not know how to merge. Where is notepad located. I can design you a house on Cad software but this is not my area.

 

I am not sure if a quote is the same as a reply, so pardon me if I am repeating myself. I do not understand. I can build you a house but I am at a loss at this.

To follow the method suggested by manmachine....

Before running the file I would back up the registry just as a precaution. To do this
Go to start menu - select run -> type in the word regedit
Select File -> Export
Save as Type -> Registration Files (.reg)
Select Export range -> All
Name it something like regbackup and save it to your desktop

To bring up notepad:
Go to start menu - select run -> type in the word notepad
Copy and paste in the above regfix
Make sure you leave the blank line at the bottom

Once done...

Select save as
Select save as type -> all files
Filename -> myfix.reg

Save to your desktop

Now double click the myfix.reg and merge it with your registry
