I have been working on my brother-in-law's computer for the better part of a week (it's actually been longer then that, but I stopped for a couple weeks). I did a reformat and fresh install of Win XP, but since then, the soundcard is no longer recognized for whatever reason. I have disabled the onboard in the BIOS, and have tried using creative's automatic card finder thing with no luck and I have downloaded the newest drivers for the card and during the install it says that it can't find a creative product in the computer. The card is a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS.

Also, in regards to the onboard, even with the generic windows drivers, that doesn't work either. The current drivers for it don't get it to work either. For both of them in the device manager it has the yellow exclimation point. I am at a loss for what to do.

I am at a loss, any ideas?

Already tried that, as well as another PCI slot. That was the first thing I did actually.

I would use this --> Everest to identify the sound card more accurately and then do a search for the drivers.

I'm 100% sure that this is the correct soundcard. It's what is printed on the chip on the card. plus, if Device manager isn't finding it, will Everest do it?

Okay, everest did detect it, and it's the card I said it was. Download the drivers again and same thing occurs, unable to find a supported device, set-up will now exit. Any other ideas?

    Hmm, sounds frustrating.
Have you found and installed the latest motherboard drivers? That's what I'd do next. I'd take the soundcard out for the time being. Install the latest motherboard drivers, hopefully that will get the onboard sound going, assuming the motherboard driver set includes that chipset. (I couldn't see why not, but weirder things have happened)
Then disable it in BIOS again and put that Audigy back in, and fingers crossed...........

okay, I downloaded the motherboard drivers and that did give me at least onboard sound. I still can't get the other soundcard to be recognized yet. my brother-in-law is just happy to have onboard sound at this point, so I think for now, it will do. Thanks for the help!

Well on board sound is at least something.
Have you put that card in another machine to be sure its is still working? Sometimes cards just turn their toes up at the most inopportune times.
I have had cards which I was 100% certain were working and in fact they had poo'd themselves.
