Posted a reply in response to someone having a infection on their computer. The response I got to ChasLang's guide was this "

At least we know where not to give guidance in proper cleaning to others. I am guessing that now forums.majorgeeks.com is now considered FUD by the so called wannabe mods at the Comcast forums.

I wouldn't even pay attention to it.

It looks from the title to be a catch-all thread for what they consider not accepted.

Why? Because you don't go to a forum to direct others to another forum, it is forum etiquette 101. We do the same thing here.

Does it suck for some people and anger others? Sure. But its a lot like taking a burger king bag into mcdonalds to sit down and eat.

I do not. They are a bunch of wannbe mods, who know nothing about forum etiquette. Let alone anything about CompSec, InfoSec, Netsec.

As for doing the same thing here Adrynalyne. We are at least mature adults about it. Well maybe unless we are being snarky about stuff.

I was stressed the past couple of months Adrynalyne about work. But now that I am retired due to my back & neck, I have found time to see that you & I are not the jerks. It is those who still live in their parents basements, that think they know more then those of us that have been in this business for over 20 plus years.

I tried to jump in and help over at the Comcast forums, but quickly realized that it was 6 against everyone else, and it was their way of how things are done. Sort of like bleepinngcomputer.com's forums.

    Looking back...

I do agree, there was no need to post the URL like that. That was a dbag intentional potshot.

Of course, these types of company forums are like that. They don't like anyone threatening their bubble of comfort.

Point in case, I am permanently banned from Verizon Wireless forums. Why? Because I am a known rom developer/modder and for that reason alone, they banned me. I was a threat to them.

Mark me up to perm ban on the DirecTV forum, for not being an installer, but someone that would explain how to fix problems, not play games. Same with bleeping computer.com. They did not like my constant getting on the so called mods over there wanting everyone to post minitoolbox and speccy info, for simple troubleshooting.

Too many kids these days think that they know more, then those of us that have been doing this for a very long time. Or know how to troubleshoot issues, without the run around.

I got tired of the be of a few over at the ATT forums, that I told the employee with ATT, that DOS their so called ACE prog am. That I could not be a part of a forum, that quite a few on there always sound like robots, and have no business in helping anyone on a foru!m.!!

It is infuriating, but idiots are put in charge of a lot of these forums.

I just shake my head and smile knowing how ignorant they are.

It reminds me of this time I got into an argument with a local "guru" that even had his own talk show. Anyway, he convinced my mother to setup her network with, ready for this? MAC filtering. Nothing else. Just MAC filtering. When I explained to him why it was bad to do that, he got all high and mighty with me. He was sooo important because of this talk show. I had a bit of a hot head back then, and it got ugly.

Anyway....to prove to my mom how stupid the guy was, I cracked the MAC filtering within minutes. Minutes because I had to drive to her office.

He even talked smack about me on his talk show. Good thing it was on AM radio.

Hell i install for ATT and even i think our T2 support and forums are pretty much garbage.

They have scripts that if they cant follow, they cant troubleshoot, anything.

Between that and the pressure thats put on you to be fast and in their eyes "efficient", it also can be a no win situation for people(like me) who do quality, not quantity.

At least as an installer though, i can at least show how good my installs and repairs are, and how much my customers love me ;)

I've never been to the Comcast forums. But that's because I've had enough problems with them over the years that I've made nice with the actual repair techs in the area, and can more often than not bypass their phone/online support entirely if it's something I can't fix. What's nice is the guys here know I've already done all the stuff in the script (which often does fix the problem) because I wouldn't be bothering them if I hadn't, so they usually manage to swing by between other service calls that leave them some time.

I guard those cell numbers better than I guard my wallet. ;)

Sounds like guy that complained on Youtube, that ATT killed his business. The shop in the videos is a complete wreck, and their website looks like a six year old designed it. That right there speaks volumes about a business that should not be in the business, of working on computers.

That was one of the reasons I got out of Cingular, before ATT took over. The scripts for the Child Support call center I worked in for the State of Illinois, was really bad about sticking to the scripts.

All they wanted was numbers, not solutions. You would get those parents that were in tears because of getting to the end of their rope, dealing with the other parent and/or the court system. Then you would get those that blamed the State on causing them to pay back money they owed in past due, or we were at fault, because either the OP changed their job, lost their job, do not pay the money to the custodial parent, or the custodial wants more.

We got cussed out and called names that people should never be called. I finally said enough was enough with that position and moved into the IT group, imaging the cases into a Database management system.

The only time I had the worse experience in my life with Comcast. Was when they bought out the Insight market where I lived. I had more problems with ATT & their U-Verse service, with it getting really bad up until I left in January with the Internet side.

Their techs stated that in order to fix their problem with their backbone, was for me to just go and purchase my own router and place in DMZ on the 2-Wire 3800hgv-b gateway. Like how is that going to change how information is routed across ATT's network.

I just threw in the towel and went with Comcast. Now I can say that I got the run around this past two weeks, when I tried to upgrade to the 105/20 Extreme. Every time I would do a chat, since I could not get through on the phones, they would state that the engineers were behind on the tickets.

I finally called on this past Thursday, got right through to a rep, and got the upgrade right there. I am hoping she waived the $250 charge to change, but that is like hoping that there is a canteen of water in the middle of the desert.

It certainly wasn't always this good. I originally had TCI Cable, which got bought by ATT@Home, which got bought by Comcast. I didn't make friends with the local guys until the year I saw them a minimum of twice a week for a period of about four months. Literally. It got so bad that I knew Brad's daughter had a science test she was dreading (and could ask a couple of days afterward how she did on it), and I made cookies for Scott to take home to his wife because she'd just had a baby and didn't have time to make something for their older son's class party.

At this point, I almost never call Comcast itself, just one of "my" techs. But since we spent so much time together they finally fixed all the BS in my original install that was screwing everything up, and taught me a couple of tricks to fix it myself when it goes out.

I hear you sgt. tibbs. I have been told on the CC forums that I did not know what I was talking about, when I mentioned to someone to go to partsexpress.com and get an inline attenuator to bring down their signal when it is too "hot", vs putting in a multi-tap splitter.

I have also been told on avsforum, that I did not know what I was talking about, when it came to the cause of ground loop hums is due to poor grounding in homes, and users creating multi-path grounds with their equipment.

It is really bad when you have some kid that has been only using computers for around ten years, act like they know more then those of us that have been using computers, since they used the large platter hard drive units, that you had to use a case that looked like a cake carrier, to insert and remove the deck.

The part that really burns my hide, is when you do give correct information on some sites, you are turned on like Hyena's attacking a Wilder beast with a broken leg.

It took four cable companies (I forgot ATTBi in my previous list) and six years for someone to tell me THAT was my problem. The solution? Power cycle my modem once a week. Internet hasn't gone out except for weather/accident for the last ten years.

As soon as he told me, I actually slapped myself on the forehead. Because...duh. But it never occurred to me. Or to the 847 people from various cable companies I'd talked to over the years.

brownizs, i want to say something, dont take it the wrong way, but partially one of those "kids" you talk about. Just because you have done computer related work for years, doesnt give me a reason to automatically respect you, i know tons of repair people in my town that have done computers for 20 years, stopped learning, and constantly just insist on selling wipes/reloads because its easier for them. I know you keep up with your learning, but at the same time, not every repair person does.

Sorry but I have been doing this for over 38 years. I am not a child, nor am I someone that just woke up yesterday and decided to get into computers.

Those that get into the business these days. The only thing they know is to tell people to wipe the drive and reinstall the OS. Most company employees blame the user's hardware as the problem, not the company infrastructure or connection to your residence or business.

A Wipe and destroy is the last thing on my list, when it comes down to not being able to fix a problem, that is so deeply rooted, that none of the tools in our arsenal that we use, will even fix it.

As for learning. Anyone that has been in this business, will be honest and state that they are always learning something new every day. But they will also give you an honest answer as to what the problem is, not play games like some teenager or twenty something that still lives in their parent's basement.

If you have the proper troubleshooting skills and know how. There is no need to first ask someone to post a log from some tool, without knowing the background of the problem first.

You do not take your car to your mechanic and tell them how to fix the problem due you? Then find out it was not what you thought that it was. Because someone in some online forum told you what they thought that it could be.
