Printer not recognising a USB port

I'm trying to install a printer on my neighbours machine. She's running windows 98 and the printer is a Lexmark Z23. I've finally set the printer up by downloading the relevant drivers from Lexmarks site and then installing them. So, the printer's all set up ok, but I can't get it to work.
In the Details tab of the printer properties, it asks me where I would like to print to (Comms1, Comms2, LPT1 etc.) but there is no USB port option to select (the printer is connected to this with my own wire because I know that that wire works).
The system doesn't bring up the new hardware message when you turn the printer on.
I've come to the conclusion that the USB port hasn't been set up correctly. I've checked the drivers associated with the USB through the device manager and the main difference between my own laptop and her machine is that we've got the driver 'usbport' and she hasn't. I've copied the driver off my machine as well as all of the .inf files and put them onto a CD. I've then tried to update driver details but that hasn't worked.

Any help please guys. This has taken over 2 hours and I'm stuck.

 

I did that, but remember you have to insert the CD with the drivers FIRST and only when setup ask, plug the USB cable! That is vital. But in your/her case you have to be sure that the USB suport are in. Do you have the WIN98 disk? When I did that I had to unistall all that I previously intalled (with Lexmak uninstall utility) and only then the USB then the install worked Ok with the drivers that I downloaded from Lexmark's site.
