A friend's machine is giving a lot of heartache (win98 64 Mb RAM) I managed to load and run AdAware and got rid of the usual junk, also loaded AVG to replace his out of date Norton, but the machine will not let AVG run and gives this message: "Memory access violation in module kernel 32" I also get this message on most of the other programs that I try to run.

I googled kernel 32 and it looks like it can be caused by just about anything! So has anybody got any suggestions before I give the thing a formatting it'll never remember!!

    Thanks in advance

Before you format, try out www.trendmicro.com and do their online scan to see if you can debug it before reformatting.

What you also may find is that Norton weaves it files all over the place plus it when uninstalled proberbly left a whole *&%$ load of files on your HD

SO I would use a registry cleaner Regcleaner, JV16, RegSupreme etc etc to locate any lost reminants and nuke em'

    then reinstall AVG

Thanks scouse and all the rest of you for your suggestions. I'm gonna try it tomorrow and I'll let you know how it goes.

    Cheers guys!
