If you have found this backdoor trojan in your computer the only way to get rid of it is by emailing Absolute Software Corp. with your serial number and they will remove it the next time their agent checks in to their technical center. It's no good deleting the files or even going into the registry. This trojan is embedded in your BIOS and even if you reset your computer back to out of the box state this file willl re-instate itself in your registry.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Thanks but this is not a trojan. It is laptop recovery protection software put on many laptops by companies and schools to help recover stolen laptops. All technically competent malware fighters already know this since we have gone thru finding out what this was awhile ago now. It does not need to be removed. It is there for the owners protection.

yeah OK I'll submit that it's not a real trojan
But boy oh boy it can be a nuisance!
My copy of Norton Internet security put up a message pop-up every time my computer booted and that can get mighty annoying after a few days.
Anyway when I googled it and no-one seemed to know what to really do about it I thought I'd let a few people know about how they can get rid of it.
At least Norton now have issued a new AV spec for their software to ignore it from now on. If all Firewall makers did this there'd be no need for anybody to worry about it.
The best thing is no more pop-up warnings at boot-up.
Thanks for the heads up to say that you already knew about it.
    Live long and prosper! ;)

All firewalls have the ability to decide to allow or deny a program to have access. Once you set this and tell it to always do the same thing, it will not ask you about it again unless the program you are giving access to changes due to an update. Then the firewall will ask again.
