Is there a yellow exclamation mark next to your sound device in Device Manager? If so, right click the device, select properties, and under the details tab, provide the Vendor and Device ID after selecting Hardware ID's in the dropdown box. I just want to make sure if you have the ALC888 or ALC1200 chipset.

Glad you got your sound back. Would you post on what you did? It may help other people. If you do not see any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager, then you are good to go.

I am not sure what the problem would be. Did your driver install Realtek HD manager? It should show up in Control Panel with Classic View.
