I posted this in the hardware forum and they said it sounded like malware and to post here. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm having a problem, someone help please!

I was doing my taxes online, and cmd prompt popped up on my screen and deleted every system32 file on my computer. I couldn't stop it. Then my computer shut itself down and when it restarted I kept getting error messages about why Windows wouldn't open.

I had to do a repair install, and after spending a day and a half to try to repair the damage, I got Windows up and running. Then my DVD drives were missing, and my USB ports had the Code 39 error next to them. The code reads "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing."

I got the DVD drives fixed by editing the registry.

I have googled the error code for 3 days now, trying every suggestion I can find, and still, my USB ports have the error messages.

Does anyone here have any idea what I can do?

    Thanks in advance!

Well some of your problems that remain will may require installation of various drivers that came with your PC which is really a Hardware problem. You will need to locate the discs that came with your PC to get these reinstalled. However, let's make sure you don't have any remaining malware problems first.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

    I repeat!

The HijackThis log must be obtained and posted only after all other steps have been completed and the other logs have been attached. Based on your HJT log alone you skip step 0 (I still see Viewpoint installed & it should be uninstalled) and step 6 at a minimum.
