100% CPU usage when watching Youtube on Firefox

Recently my cpu usage has been running at 100% when watching video sites like Youtube on Firefox. The video stops and starts a lot too. This didn't happen before, so I'm not sure that there is anything inherently wrong with using Firefox.

On IE6, however, I still get pretty high CPU usage but it doesn't break up at all.

    Any suggestions?

Try reinstalling the Flash plugin, then restart the computer.

If that doesnt do it, maybe the computer has low RAM? May just be a problem with the way Firefox uses Flash, does it do the same thing with IEs ActiveX?

    Hello.
I'm not familiar with ie active x.
I reinstalled the flashplugin, restarted and still getting a high cpu. I also killed Compiz, replaced with Metacity. Same results.

    Maybe I'll try that Opera.
I haven't tried Konqueror. I think it needs to be pointed to the flash plug in,java and all that because JavaApplet and Flash won't run.

I don't think I had this problem with Feisty. I can't remember, but I do remember that I did have a high cpu issue with feisty with firefox too just by scrolling up/down. It also didn't run well with Compiz or Beryl. But this HardyHeron runs alot smoother and faster even with those desktop managers.

    Oh. You mean Internet Explorer?
My XP PRO on the other side of boot is "perfect" I don't have any issues there. Except for RSS FEED using News Junkie - : Erro - no feeds. Just blank

Back to Subject: No issues with Firefox 3 and youtube.

    Thanks.

    Ok, issue resolved:

I don't exactly know how I fixed it but here's what I did.

Removed two flash that were associated with mozilla.
Didn't document it but if I can remember correctly:
libflash-mozplugin - GPL Flash (SWF) Library Mozilla compatible plugin
swfdec-mozilla - mozilla plugin for SWF (macromedia flash)

Also went to this site to check Flash Version:
It gave me this code WIN 9.100. - something like that which decodes as Windows and version 9.100
    http://www.mediacollege.com/adobe/flash/player/version/show.html

I also went here to DL and install this Flash Version:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?znhecmwx0j4

Going back to that ShowFlashVersion site: Results to : LNX 9,0,124,0. It's no longer displaying WIN 9.100.xx.xx

    Everythings working good now.

I'm not exactly sure which one corrected the issue :-D

    Thanks.

I had the same problem and the fix turned out to be quite simple: turn off teatimer.exe
It comes with Spybot Search&Destroy and checks everything you do online. EVERYTHING. Which means that every bit of a flash video goes through teatimer's procedures before you watch it resulting in huge amounts of CPU usage.

I have found there may be other reasons such as high CPU temperature but this is my fix.

Interesting observation (in a four year old topic).

Just curious: was that high CPU used by the browser (or plugin container), or by Teatimer?
