Check that Windows Audio Service is started.
    Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
Scroll down the list of services until you find the Windows Audio service.
Right click on it and choose Properties.
Make sure it is set to Automatic and Start is checked.

Go to Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices, choose the Audio tab and make sure that Realtek is set as Default device.

    Install your Chipset driver:

    Install your Audio driver:

Check: Device Manager for bad drivers.
For XP: Go to Start>Control Panel> System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager, then click the plus sign in front of Sound, Video, Game Controllers.

    Is Realtek showing there?
Does it have a ? or ! in front of it?
Is there an unknown PCI device?
Is there anything listed under Other devices?

    In the System devices section:
Does the MS UAA Bus driver show there?
Are there a ? or ! in front of it?

The Multimedia Controller in Other devices is your audio.
I think it's possible that the version of Realtek that PB has must not include the UAA.
Install this and then do a complete shut down, then reboot.
    HD_Audio/kb888111xpsp2.exe

If you still don't have sound, attach another screen shot of your device manager.

By chance, you didn't originally have Vista on this PC, did you?

    1) Uninstall Realtek High Definition Audio Driver through Add/Remove Programs
    2) Uninstall the Multimedia Contoller in Device Manager/Other devices

    KB888111

In Add/Remove Programs, look for the KB888111 update and uninstall it. (It may have uninstalled in last step)
If you install, remove, and then re-install this update, the update is no longer listed in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Therefore, you cannot remove this update from your computer.
To work around this problem, follow these steps.
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KB888111
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    4. Click Yes, and then exit Registry Editor.
Run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_S...ish_d4191.html

Install your driver, then reboot, again.
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/Realtek_Hi...P03_d4902.html
The UAA should be contained in this download.

to be mroe spesific i did not find "KB888111" except for that everything is pretty much the same the multimedia controler is still a question mark and the UAA is no where to be found :/

I dug deeper into your Everest report. I was wrong about the Unknown Multimedia Controller in Other devices.
It is a Philips SAA7135HL Multimedia Capture Device.

Which, after doing some poking around seems to be your TV Tuner card.
Let's try getting that installed properly, as these type of things seem to also affect your audio.

    http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?m=download&i=6961490000;tv7131-1325.exe;0;;

Let me know if this gets rid of the ? mark on it.

Look in the SP3 folder. Sometimes it slips in there.

Everest shows you have SP2, but have you updated to SP3?
(I don't always trust all of Everest's info)
If you have, that could be the problem.

Also, I would try removing your new graphics card, uninstall it's driver, and see if you can get your audio to reinstall.
That's were the problem started, so maybe there is a conflict there.
If you can get the audio installed, without the card, put it back in, then reinstall it's driver to see if you lose sound again.

  21. dille-man

    dille-man Private E-2

Yup it's in SP3 but no i haven't updated to SP3 i still have SP2 what should i do whit the KB888111 file?

  22. dille-man

    dille-man Private E-2

    il try that

  23. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

You'll have to try these steps again:
If you haven't already pulled your graphics card, run these steps and see if it works.
Actually with Realtek these steps are almost needed to get the HD to install at all.

  24. dille-man

    dille-man Private E-2

Puting in the old graphic card and uninstaling the new drivers and geting the old drivers didn't make the sound coma back :(

  25. dille-man

    dille-man Private E-2

I have tried everything yoo said but still no sign of any sound coming back :(

If I have you right, you don't even have the UAA or Realtek showing, even as a bad install. Right?
And you are not getting any error messages during the install?

Not sure if this will help but it has a couple of times.
I saw that you do have the "Plug and Play Enumerator", so this is that half of this fix.

    Scenario One
You DO have "Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator" listed under System Devices

    Carry out the following steps;
    * Copy C:\WINDOWS\inf\machine.inf to a temporary location
    * Edit your copy of machine.inf in Notepad
    * Remove line 20 (ExcludeFromSelect=*)
    * Right-click “Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator” and click “Update Driver”
    * Choose “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)” and click Next
    * Choose “Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install” and click Next
    * Click “Have Disk”
    * Browse to the location of your copy of machine.inf and click OK
    * Select “Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator” and click Next
    * Wait for the software to install then click Finish

Now see if you can install your driver.

It looks like your chip may have died.
If none of these solutions worked, then there is a good possibility of that.
You may want to buy a good inexpensive add-on sound card.

I'll give a couple of shots at your Vista, just to be sure we covered all the bases.
Again, make sure Windows Audio is running.
I would uninstall that ASUS device in Sounds, Video, Game Controllers.
Now try installing this Realtek driver:
    http://majorgeeks.com/Realtek_High_Definition_Audio_for_Vista_d5513.html
The UAA is contained within the download.

:O but i had integrated sound how am i supose to install the new sound if i have no output for the sound :O advice?

  31. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

You have one PCI and one PCI E slot open for a sound card.
This is from your Everest report:
I think most Sound cards are PCI and there is also some that use USB.
The cards will have audio jacks on them.
    This is just one brand:

If you need any more info just let me know.

You're not wasting my time, I enjoy doing this. ;)
Just make sure your card will work in your PC, before putting any money out.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but..... rolleyes
If you go into Best Buy with your PC model info, they can look up your PC and tell you exactly what cards will work.
Don't let them sell you one though. Once you have the info, you can get one on-line for cheaper. Newegg is a good mail order site for that.

    Just for a second?
    Device Manager showed Realtek?

That's totally weird. Something is definitely not right.
Whack your case a couple of times.
    No, don't! Just joking. LOL
    [IMG]

One other thing you can try is a Repair Install of XP.
I don't really think your problem is a software issue, though.
I attached a step by step tutorial on a Repair Install, if you decide to try that.

You have gremlins in your PC!
OK, you have Realtek. It looks installed properly.
And now you DO have sound?

Did you just do a shutdown and reboot before it appeared?
Sometimes, that is needed. (Full shutdown)

Do you have your Volume icon on the task bar and can you access the Realtek HD Audio Manager?
