Hello all, I'm new here but I come in need of help.

I have a DSL modem, and a TEW 311 BRP router to share this DSL connection with three computers.

Unfortunately, I did not set it up as my step father did not trust me to do so, and he hired someone. That someone has not helped me solve my problem.

Regardless, I randomly get disconnected from the internet several times daily. My LAN status in the System Tray will suddenly say "Cable was disconnected" and then it will say it's been reconnected and the lights will begin again.

Three minutes or so later, I am able to use the internet again. I know it's about three minutes because my AIM disconnects and always reonnects at the last second. (It gives you three minutes to reconnect).

This doesnt just happen on my PC, it happens on all of them in the house.
It can't be a cable, because it comes back on by itself, without my touching anything.

Today, I checked my event log after it happened and got this, Event ID 1002

The IP address lease 192.168.1.64 for the Network Card with network address 00034788A012 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.0.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

I still can not figure this out, and I'm fairly computer and networking literate.

Thank you so much in advance,
    Justin Lee

Does it happen to all the PCs simultaneously, or each one at somewhat regular intervals say every 5-7 hours, or 8-10 hours, etc.)?

ummmm, might wanna test your speed.

Go to this website and do the test.

    http://giganews.com/test_connect.html

If its around 1200kbps or 2000kbps then i have to idea, because u have a solid connection.

If its under that or around 200kbps then u might have to go into your router settings, (enter your router ip into your internet explorer 192.168.2.1 ) because u might have your Transfer Rate on automatic. Switch that to its highest, like 11mbps or something.

    or

If your being disconnected while someone else is on at the same time you might have a ip address conflict, or something of that nature.

    Anyway Good Luck!

When it happens it happens to all PC's at the same time. I looked at the Event Viewer, and it happened three times on October Ninth between 1:30 am and 6:30 am. This is a time when my PC is the only one that is on in the house, so I know they can't be conflicting with each other.

Speed is about 1300-1400 kbps, Morpheus. The connection is definately solid.

I do get IP address conflicts every once in a great while, but it's rare and when it happens if fixes itself within 10-30 seconds. This lasts for 2-3 minutes every tme.

Also, I can't log into my router as Admin, only as User so I can't fool around with the settings. The guy who set this up forgot to tell me the password.

Ya then the only thing i can think off is the router, might have a few problems with it.

Either get the password of hit the reset button on the router. I sujest getting the password unless u wanna reset everything.

Alright, I have reset the router and went through the wizard and set it up to obtain an IP address using PPPoE.

It was set up as a DHCP server before.

I'm gonna see if it goes down at all today and then fiddle with the settings again....

I'm not convinced 100% it's your router. It's possible that it is your ISP.

If you can do it, hook up your PC directly to your DSL modem and see if you get the same problems. If so, then it's not the router.
