well heres the thing, ive found this myself and other people have as well, the scandisk that is in windows(not the dos based one) is very flawed, microsoft even admited this, it often reports wrong errors, doest fix things properly, and yes it will sometimes fail to make it all the way through the scan, try running the dos based one, just type scandisk in dospromt

as for the long file name, it shouldnt be an issuee since windows 98 supports filenames up to what 256characters? now the only other thing i can see is that u may have a file with an extra period or something that is causing it sucks as whatever.asdf.exe, dos still only supports 8 characters but that shouldnt affect it in scandisk as long filenames are automatically converteed in dos, such as program files becomes progra~1

but all in all you probably shouldnt worry about it, id chalk it up to a scandisk glich

An old Packard Bell I had to work on once had this problem. Turned out to be a failing hard drive. Slapped a new drive in it and to this day, it has never had another invalid long filename error.
