Life without DSL :(

So the DSL techie came out yesterday....apparently. I think he had Harry Potter's invisibility cloak on though, because, although I took half a day off work to let him in, I didn't see or hear him. And he must have been sat right on my lap as I was working at the computer all afternoon! Amazing!

A few hours of ON HOLD later, and apparently the xray ability of Qwest tell me that there is a problme with my phone line. Really? Didn't seem too big a problem when they left me on hold half the freakin' evening! So someone is going to come out and play with our line today.

5 days without DSL....going back to dial-up is driving us all insane...especially my husband, who gave up smoking 3 days ago! Yayyyy

 

I smoked more than ever 3 days ago.... *shudder*

Life without the internet in general sucks so...

 

Seriously, you should quit. You're young enough for it not to be a problem as such yet. In 20 years or so you will be glad you don't have to go through all that when you see others around you having to

Tell me about it...I've got withdrawals from MG's...maybe I should consider quitting too

 

I haven't smoked since saturday, the nicotine doesn't get me addicted and it's like my dad, he can casually have a cigarette once in a while and not get him hooked, if it's there I won't say I need it but on the odd occasion I will.......saturday was just an exception

 

My nan was the same...take it or leave kinda lady. All I'm saying is be careful and keep it real. What you say above is how I started a 30-a-day habit at age 13

And so the DSL saga continues.

The DSL light still intermittently flashes (meaning no DSL connection). Despite external repair work it isn't fixed...it is fixed...it isn't fixed...it is fixed....it all depends which technician you talk to apparently. Either way...makes no odds...I'm still using freaking dial-up!!!!

More technicians tomorrow and apparently an $85 cost. I put them straight on that one! They haven't even REACHED my actual house yet to carry out any repairs and they want to charge me !!! Not gonna happen guys

5 days without DSL....and I haven't cursed once

 

DSL is great Lev, but I also had one hell of a time to get mine to work,

The day it was to be hooked up I already had the modem and router and everything set up so when I got home from work went straight to the computer and tried to connect.
The DSL light was lit but couldnt connect to the internet so after several tries called support.

Have you done this and have you done that and lets try that again and then they would pass me on to someone higher up the food chain and they would ask exactly the same questions, have you tried this and have you tried that and did you try closing your eyes and clicking your heels together three times!!!!!

Finally had to go to bed so next night when I got home from work called again and did a repeat of exactly what we had done the night before!!!!

After talking to about six different people,( each was supposed to be next higher in Knowledge of what to do Finally got a hold of a gentleman with a deep slow voice,
( I think it was the GOD of the internet) and he says OH thats the problem, try it now and it WORKED. I bet I was on the phone a total of 7 or 8 hours and this guy fixed whatever the problem was in about 30 seconds after I started talking to him.

So hang in there Lev, finally the right person will look at your problem and fix it!!!!!

 

And they did !

We have a whole new telephone junction box out the back of the house now. I guess that Oregon rain reached parts that other rain cannot reach

 

9th jan...3 weeks, 3 days, and 3 hours ago. (funny how that worked out). patches are helping some. wacky baccy is helping some, but mostly i/we struggle from minute to minute. the fact that hubby is doing it too, and the fact that we are both REALLY REALLY determined (this time!!) has prevented me from caving in and getting some. i have not cheated, not even a puff of someone elses. pat on the back.

My husband passed the 100 hour mark yesterday. Tomorrow will be his first complete week. He is doing so well too - hardly a mood swing in sight, though I can't get anywhere near my new PC at home

No kidding, they said parts of Oregon will find 55 mph winds and they are forecasting 30-40 foot surf in California!
