I was reading XKCD when I happened upon this comic - http://xkcd.com/806/
Why would the uplink light kill your internet connection? What's going on when it happens? Thanks

It the case of the cartoon he is probably talking about the "link" or "uplink" light, which usually is solid when your modem / router is connected to the network and is functioning correctly. Flashing usually means the link is broken. The light doesn't kill your connection, it tells you the connection is broken. It means no Internet service. So the stick guy is call his ISP because the link is down.
Meanwhile on a network device the uplink is a "crossover" port for linking two like devices. Is the device doesn't have an uplink it is auto sensing and with cross the connection for you. |
