Hi,
This may be a problem for many people so I am hoping someone has a good solution. My email account is with hotmail. My junk mail folder is constantly flooded with all kinds of spam, from both legit businesses and some down right disgusting(ahem) dating sites as well as obvious phishing scams. Interestingly, all most all of them end with @yahoo.com. This an example of an email address that I blocked today <snip>. My blocking filter will not allow me to block just @yahoo.com. Is there a solution to end this avalanche of junk? Thanks for any help you offer. Last edited by LauraR; 06-11-12 at 16:07.. Reason: edited out email addy |

Using an email client such as Windows Live Mail and blocking, i.e., sending to the Junk Mail folder, all mail from yahoo.com might be a solution. |

Yes, I use hotmail and NOT yahoo for email. And yes, I have changed my password, twice, in the last couple months. This problem has been ongoing for quite sometime. There must be a solution.

Might it be that you're receiving this spam because some one with a compromised Yahoo account has your email addy in their mailing list? Do all of these spam happen to be 4K in size, or all the same size close to 4K?

I am guessing you might need to start adding Filters here is away to do it on Gmail.
http://support.google.com/mail/bin/a...&answer=6579#1 I looked all around Gmail and could not find a spam filter option unless i missed it. But in your situation i would probably start bye doing filter options. And filtering out the good from the bad I know how you feel sucks And its very annoying it can drive people crazyI am all starting to think that may be one of your contacts in your list is hacked and its sending mail from it.I had that happen to my yahoo account and it kept sending emails to my mom and she new it was not me. Might want to contact any body that is in your contact list and check to make sure that there email accounts are not hacked.

Typically, yahoo and hotmail are both pretty bad about attracting spam. They are both huge carriers and therefore the spammers target them. I got rid of my yahoo email (through verizon) for that reason and switched to gmail. If you are using your email for anything online, such as purchasing, registering at online sites, etc. You are going to get spam. Basically, if you ask me, your solution is to create a new email account that you only use for personal (friends/family, etc) use. Keep this hotmail one for anything you do online and don't worry about your junk folder.

I use 3 emails, one for registering at places I know will end up sending spam, one for email, which has gotten compromised, by spam, because I used it to register at "safe" sites, (finally back under my control) and last my real email, which never gets placed anywhere, for any reason.
That last account has had 4 pieces of spam, in the last 3 years. They still sit in my folder, as a trophy. Spam will get to you, if you use that email for registering at sites, joining FB, or entering it anywhere on the 'net. Taking back control takes time. You can add a sender's domain to a junk list in Hotmail or just the sender's personal address. But even then some spam comes from the same advertiser, but through numerous addresses and domains. My solution would be to nuke that email, set up a new one, send it only to good friends, and don't use it on the 'net. But I like overkill. ![]()

Why would the new yahoo mail interface get more spam then the old one? its not a different email service ,just a different front end, also the user uses hotmail. Not gmail, not yahoo, not aol, its hotmail! Read the whole post!

I know it's really annoying but all of that stuff Is going into the Junk folder, so all you have to do is delete it. Would it be better if you did not get all of that C**P? Sure. But at least the filter seems to be working properly. The worst is that you have to check the Junk folder contents to look for Legitimate email.

Here is another example of what I believe to not be legitamite. It is from Windows Live Hotmail informing me that they are unable to verify my account.
When I click the link, I get a page that says the account has been suspended. |

What you are describing sounds like a phishing scam. Everyone gets those. You shouldn't click on them, click on links, and especially not give any of your personal info. If you are able to log into your account, do not worry about what things in your spam folder are saying. That is why hotmail is sending it to spam.

It sounds like your instincts were good since you thought it didn't sound legit.
There aren't any legitimate companies that will ask you to verify any personal info via a link in an email. If it's your email provider, as yours was, their own emails won't be going into your junk folder. Always always always go to whatever account is in question yourself. I can't emphasize enough that you should never click on any links in email to get to the site and give out any personal info...especially your account name and password.
