Yesterday my antivirus (McAfee) ran an update and then scanned the computer. It notified me that a PUP and a trojan had been found. It allowed me to remove the PUP (Adware-UCMore), however, it only quantined the trojan (Generic!Artemis). I was having problems with this PUP after trying to download coupons from the internet. I then was told to download malware. That seemed to clean up unnecessary files, but not the PUP. I then uninstalled the malware (this was about a week ago). Since then I haven't downloaded anything from the internet. After researching the tojan, many hadn't had any luck trying to remove Generic!Artemis and I was told to go this route. I have attached my logs as requested.

I have tried to attach the final log (MGlogs.zip) but I cannot seem to find it - can you help?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

As long as you have run MGtools, it is where the READ & RUN ME specifies. And that is C:\MGlogs.zip That is all you have to enter into the Manage Attachments form and then click Upload.

Note that PUP is Potentially Unwanted Program and it is not necessarily bad. If could just be something that you knowingly installed. McAfee is just alerting you to make sure that you know what it is. You need to be MUCH MORE specific and tell us exactly what file and in what folder it is finding this problem.

It seems that whatever was the problem is no longer the problem. Thank you for your help.

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
