Seeking Upgrade Info from Vista to 7, please..

I would "like" (am hoping) to upgrade our PC here from Vista Home/Basic, to any version of 7, and have never done anything such as this.

I don't understand what I am being told between these two links:

If you live in the U.S., I suggest you visit http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCateg...rating-Systems and buy the OS of your choice. Home Premium is quite likely an appropriate choice. Be sure you know whether you should get the 32-bit version of the 64-bit version.

Thanks...and yes, one of the few things I do know is the desktop is 32-bit (x86), and my Notebook/Netbook (laptop/whatever) is 64-Bit - (still wish I had a clue why Microsoft went to the trouble of putting-up those pages I linked to..seem worthless, from my perspective...) thanks again...

If you have a .edu email, you can get Windows 7 at a deep discount. You can also use "Windows Anytime Upgrade" with the key that you get from Ultimatesteal.com or http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/...ryid.37826100/ which is the Student/Education store. If you do go with Windows 7, get Pro. Also, what is the model & manufacturer of the 32bit system? If you run CPU-Z, it may come back that actually that system is a 64bit system.

Both my Netbook & Compaq Desktop came with 32bit versions, and after I ran CPU-Z, realized that I could do the 64bit, but after doing some deep research, it is just better to stick with 32bit Windows, because it was not going to give me anything worthwhile for what we use the desktop for. The Netbook on the other hand, is running the 64bit version of Ubuntu 12.04LTS.

Depending on how much RAM you can put on both systems, and what you are using it for, and if it comes back that the one that you think may only be 32bit, but in reality is a 64bit machine (most made in the last 6 years are 64bit machines), shoot for the 64bit version of Windows 7.
