Problem with atm network controller

Hi I am helping a friend she has an acer aspire sa80. This morning she tried to update to AVG 9 but the download wouldn't finish due to an error (she can't remember what the error was) so she canceled the download and when she came home no internet. She called her service provider but they cannot help. Upon checking her devices I see that there is a big exclamation point and question mark beside other devices atm network controller. Could this be the problem??? If so how can I fix it? :confused Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
