Computer not loading my profile anymore

Ok so I started getting error messages on my computer and the symantic antivirus was not coming on. It seemed like something was stoping programs from loading. This is my work computer. I got most of the way through the recommended fixes mentioned on this forum, I even have a hijack log done but when I came in on Monday and logged onto my computer it didn't log me onto my profile. None of my desktop items were there, my wallpaper was changed, I even tried to open my outlook and it was like the first time outlook was being installed. Our computer guy didn't spend much time looking at it and his answer was 'we will have to reformat the hard drive' which I think is bull. Any ideas on what I should do from here? I had a lot of my emails stored in the archive folder which I believe is on the C drive. I cannot access any of them now and I need them. Any ideas of how to fix this would be appreciated.

What programs did you run? Did you get any logs from them? You did not go through the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST, because if you had, you would know we do not ask for a HijackThis log. Without knowing if you are dealing with just malware or with malware mixed in with damaged or missing files from working on your own, I would prefer to hear more information about what you tried before asking you to go through all the instructions in the READ & RUN ME.
