I've been working to fix this problem but have been very unsuccessful. I downloaded this malware on Tuesday and since then it has been able to disable my control panel, task manager, registry editing, and has seemed to delete all my windows system restore points as it cannot restore my computer to any restore point that I've tried. I have been able to get my task manager back and registry editing, and I had the control panel back but it's gone once again. I used gpedit so far but have not been able to see any results. Everytime I log on I get "Windows Securite Alert" saying "Warning potential spyware operation! Your computer is making unauthorized copies of your system and internet files. Run full scan now to prevent any unathorised access to you files! Click YES to download spyware remover ..." Using my windows task manager, I checked to see what process this Windows Security Alert is using and it's using csrss.exe. This is a major system file and I'm beginning to get real worried. Can someone please help.

    Here is my HijackThis log...

    PLEASE HELP ASAP

Please follow the instructions here before posting any logs ...they should be attached!
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

Pay attention to downloading, installing and renaming HJT!

When you have the requested logs, please attach them to your next posts.:)

As I stated before...pay attention to the instructions for HJT. You have it exactly where we tell you not to install it:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Matt Hindt\Desktop\HijackThis.exe ---> it should be:
    C:\Program Files\HijackThis\analyse.exe!

Please uninstall it and reinstall as directed.
    Also uninstall:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    URL Assistant
Sunbelt Counterspy ---> we are finished with it.

Run HijackThis and click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    * Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    * Now click the 'Done' button.
    * Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    * You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

    Attach new logs for:
    ShowNew
    GetRunKeys
    HJT
    Avenger

    Lets try this .....

Re-run HJT and have it fix this item:
    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

    After clicking fix, exit HJT.

    Now:
Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Do you have your control panel back? Tell me how things are running.

After that last registry file I have my control panel and task manager back. There have been no pop-ups about spyware since the first things you had me do. Everything seems to be running fine. My only concern is on the desktop is a file that is a shortcut to MS-DOS program and cannot be deleted. It's named "setup" and you had me delete the "setup.exe" that was on my desktop as well. Should I run avenger.exe to delete this file in the same manner I did for "setup.exe"? I really appreciate your help. Thank you so much

Yes...right click it / properties and you should have the full path to it ...then run avenger and input that path into the Files to delete: ....
If everything else is running ok ...
You may uninstall any programs we had you download (including CounterSpy, etc).

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
    * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
