    Hi!
I went through "Do this First!" and both Bit Defender and Panda found a lot of malware, mostly though in quarentine files or the recycler of Nortons, but some fresh things also, that both were not able to fix. Nothing malicious found by either AdAware or Spybot S&D. I cannot use Safe Mode with Internet Connection, so I did online scans from normal boot mode.
I used Poptray as a mail previewer for several years and started getting strange things a few weeks ago, that it couldn't delete things. I deinstalled Poptray and will reinstall it. Today I noticed my Address list in Outlook Express does not correspond to my CC Address list in Outlook Express. A name which is in the Address List does not appear when I push on CC to add it there. I don't know why. Also, my Word documents contain illegible spots in them, which I can get rid of by going to page view and then back to normal view.
For those things found by Bit Defender and Panda, can I simply delete them? or do I need fix tools?
I am attaching the logs of the BD & Panda scans and a Hijackthis log.
    Thanks for your help! :)

Empty the Notron Antivirus Quarintine folder.
Empty the Norton Protected Recycle Bin.

Now run CCleaner. If you have Windows XP delete the contents of C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch.

Then, as an added precaution, Go to Start -> Run and type: cleanmgr and then click OK. Make sure the boxes for these are checked:
    Temporary Files
    Temporary Internet Files
    Recycle Bin

    And Click OK.

Follow the directions for Running Ewido Security Suite.

Follow the directions for Running WinPfind by OldTimer.

You have several emails in Outlook that have infected attachments that need to be deleted and removed from the Delete Items folder in Outlook.

Post the Ewido and WinPFind logs after you have finished with the above.

    Hi Shadow!
:) Sorry, I got lost in a parallel universe for 3 weeks. I did the "Read this first" (but don't have an internet connection in safe mode) so those scans were done in regular mode. After that I did the Ewido and the WinPfind and the HJT reports. I've attached those reports here. I read the page about Outlook file corruption and that is what I will work on next. Thanks for your help!

p.s. why is there a red X next to my hjt file? I get this when I submit "log" files.

Copy the contents of the below quote box to notepad and Save As Fix.reg to your Desktop. Don't run it just yet.
Scan with HijackThis and fix teh following:
Locate Fix.reg on your Desktop and Double-Click on it. Aswer 'Yes' when asked if you want to merge with the registry.

    REBOOT.

    How is your Computer running?

If it says aboutblank that is the default value.

    Hi Shadow!
Thank you very much. My computer seems to be working fine. I did everything recommended. The original problem I came here with was that my address list in Outlook Express no longer matched my contact list so that when I looked for a name to add as a carbon copy, it was missing even though it was in the contact list. Also, there were about a hundred names in the contact list that I didn't recognize.
In thinking about this, I heard of a similar problem with someone else, so I did a search for one missing name and discovered that the address list is being alphabetized differently than the contact list. The actual entries don't match up anymore, even though they seem to all still be there. This might be the result of a Microsoft update, since it is a fairly new problem and has shown up with another person besides myself who uses Outlook.
As for the beaucoup names of people I didn't know showing up on my address list, in my settings in Outlook Express I checked that addresses be automatically accepted into the address list from any "sent" e-mail. Some weeks ago I hit "answer all" to two e-mails that were hoaxes, and it is possible that all of the carbon copy addresses were then (as per my setting) automatically added to my address list. I changed this setting now.
When I saw both of these problems together, I thought they were connected, but in thinking about it further, they could easily be two problems that came up at the same time. I don't know how to fix the first problem with the different alphabetizing, but I can work with it. It doesn't seem to be a corruption problem.
Thanks so much for your help. I learn. :)

Disable System Restore and then enable System Restore. This will flush all your restore points and create a new clean one for your system.
