stupid defaults

I need some help about how to change defaults, I use XP, and FF

when I browse the net, I like to save pictures to my harddrive
I want to save them to the desktop, so I have to change the little file EVERYTIME
I have to make it go from changing it to from saving into MY PICTURES
to making it save on the desktop

so once I save it, If I want to find it again, I have to go back to the desktop and arrange things by "MODIFIED"
then I can find my file(usually to upload to my picture storage site or an email)
so how do I change the default so I don't need to waste time and always having to make those changes?

That could just be a Firefox thingy. IE remembers where you save things and defaults to the last location automatically.

 

Go to Tools, Options, Downloads.

 

yeah it does
after I change it then on it will always do it how I changed it

but then when I come back later, and do it again, I still have to change it

nothing has changed permanently

 

ok that helps with one issue,
can I change a window to always display things a certain way?
so when I look at my desktop, I always see things in order of what was modified last?

 

Can't really help with that one.Don't bnormally even use FF.Installed to check for your download problem.

Right-click on desktop>arrange icons by>modified.

In explorer windows simply click on the Date Modified column header.

it doesnt stay that way though, I want it to always display the desktop by "date modified"

oh the 1st issue is still on the table, when I went to save my avatar, it made me change the directory from MY PICTURES to the desktop

Why is this simple detail so hard to change? and yet it I had to add more RAM or change my OS, it's no big dea
details are the important part of life
people tell me to look at the BIG picture and don't "sweat the small stuff"

2 of my friends went to hawaii with there GFs
one stayed in a nice resort on the main island, paid a shit ton, but have every frkcin detail covered

the other couple took a BOAT to hawaii, and spent more time dealing with sunburns than enjoying their Mcdonalds by their motel

but hey, they went to Hawaii!!

 

On mine, Desktop is the default download destination.

awww good, a I'll ask there also,

even when I made that picture, when I was in PAINT, and I hit OPEN, the destination folder that opened was MY PICTURES
not DESKTOP

I just want to always use the desktop, I didn't realize that saving a picture to the computer was downloading, but I guess it is

Each application has its own default save location. If you want Paint, or any other program, to use Desktop you will need to open that app and set the default yourself. There isn't any other way you can make all apps use Desktop.
