I have a problem with writing a cd. It stops writing at various points during the process. I have a Dell Dimension xps about 2 years old. large drive & gig of ram. I'm using Roxio 7.5 software. Problem has been going on a while. Once in while I get all the way through. Problem cleared up a couple of months ago and process was much faster. Now it is back. I didn't post this in hardware section because I believe it is software problem. One problem is that I am constantly loading and unloading programs trying them out. Some freeware, shareware, etc. I also have Creative Software Package that I use. Upgraded to Roxio 9 on line which I will never do again, I want cds in hand. Roxio 9 really slowed down entire computer. So I msconfiged and other things to make sure not in start up process. I've tried to download new drivers and that is a nightmare.

I'm out of ideas. Any help is appreciated.

Well, the first think you should do is determine whether or not it's a hardware/software problem. Try burning the same thing with a different program.
Try InfraRecorder and tell me how it goes.

It is software because it was working fine until I loaded some software program. I'm constantly downloading programs and installing them and if I like them I keep. Don't know what software did it.

I'd probably look in Event Logs and see if there are any related errors.
Msconfiguring too many things can actually be detrimental and cause more problems.

Are there any other burner related programs installed? Maybe components of one program interfering with another.

Possibly need to thouroughly clean up your system because you try too many programs (CCleaner is a good program for that purpose).

Any possibility of a System Restore back to when your system was working ok?

Thanks so much for replying. I did check my log. But I think I found out what the problem was and I feel like the biggest jerk, no the dumbest jerk. I think my recording program will not record a cd if there is a mixture of mp3 and wav files. I took out the one song that wasn't an mp3 file and it recorded fine. I'll keep ckecking.

I've got an external hard drive with over 10,000 songs on it. I collect old music from the 20s & 30s & 40s especially. Mr dog which is a Brittany is named Count Basie. I also collect what we southeasterners refer to as "beach music". No it's not the Beach Boys or Jan and Dean type music is more R & B. Early R&B. We do a dance to it that is called the shag. Very interesting. Big deal in SC, NC, GA, Vir, & most of the southeast. We even have a 10 day festival twice a year at North Myrtle Beach which is called the home of beach or shag music. It's an old dance that was started in the late 40s and early 50s. Yep, we are a bunch of old farts. If you are interested I can send you a cd of muisic and you can watch it on YouTube just search shag dance.

Thanks again and I'll definitely ask for more help if it continues.
