can't install windows 10 on a core 2 quad 9550?

I'm getting mixed messages as to whether or not I can install this OS on my computer. I finally got the get windows 10 on my taskbar, yet it says windows 10 is incompatible with my computer. I see other places around that in forums that makes it look like I could download windows 10 on my machine but I may have stuff not enabled correctly in my BIOS? any help please? I would really love to upgrade to the new OS.

I'm pretty sure that CPU supports those features - but some may be disabled in the BIOS.

I am on windows 7 right now. I keep reading forum posts of people who had problems upgrading to windows 8.1 with my cpu specs. Some were able to do it with a bios update. I am scared to try to update bios because this machine is the only one I have and if I screw it up, then I am screwed.

 

ok. I everything that should be enabled in bios is enabled. VT-x or VT-d is not showing up in cpu z for some reason, everything else is there. It says my model cpu does support this though. So, in theory it looks like my cpu should be able to upgrade from what I am reading. I just don't understand why VT-x or VT-d is not showing up in instructions in cpu z. Everything else looks to be enabled in bios and also supports it and all that. I don't know what is wrong/.

Then it's probably a BIOS issue, try asking on the forum of the PC/motherboard maker.

Toki5, check there are no KB2952664 Windows 10 Compatibility updates pending, nor hidden. Verify the last dates for this update match in both the update history list and the installed updates list.

Run coreinfo.exe and tell us if you get asterisks for VMX, NX, PAE, and SSE2.

When you click on the "Get Windows 10" icon, it does the check, and you get the pc incompatible response. Is there a "view report" displayed? If so, what's in the report?

You might run the Intel CPU ID utility to gather further information.

Basically, feature not always available ... contact vendor, etc.

You might post on the Intel/Communities/Support forum for assistance. I saw a number of posts involving Q9550 and virtualization, but nothing specific about win10 upgrading, e.g.
