Obtain an IP address automatically problem.

    I have a laptop the that will not Obtain an IP address automatically, but if I enter it manually it works??
    Has any one seen this before??

    over wireless or pluged in? are you using a router with dhcp goin on it? The DHCP is what is going to give you an IP when its set on auto.

    Sorry. It's wireless but I found the fix.
    I did the following:
    -Click Start Run and type services.msc and hit enter. Check the DHCP client service and make sure it is started.

    -In Control Panel, Network Coonections, go to TCP/IP, right click anf go to properties. Click on the advanced tab and then the Wins tab. Try setting 'Enable Netbios over TCP/IP'

    re-booted and all was well..
