Your comments on CCleaner this day. Switching to Wise Care. I have used CCleaner forever. With your blessing. I never use any downloads or recommendations for any software and it has been that way long before I joined this forum. I refer all my friends and family to your free download recommendations at all times and let them make a choice. Please keep your, " Top Freeware Picks", up to date at all times. Am sure millions rely on your expertise. I suggest that they are getting ready for the cloud release of , "Agomo", which may be the reason for slim being gone.

Piriform often don't release the Slim version until ~ 2 weeks after the main software is updated.

As Mike31Jp points out in the comments section of the News article, using the Portable files to refresh your installed CCleaner gives you the equivalent of the Slim version without needing to wait for the official version to be released.

    Hi Dave

Either of them is fine and while you may just need to opt out of a few things during a full install of CCleaner, or copy and paste the portable files into the Program Files > CCleaner folder and you will have same as Slim. A plus with the portable is you can run it from any location and pop it on USB pen to use out and about if you help others fix PC issue.

That said, well worth a test of WiseCleaner as they are a good company and products I have never had issues with, yes they will work different in a usability GUI function but WiseCleaner will do the same as CCleaner and in some instances a bit better, its a little more aggressive but not overly so, but do read the explanations of what the Advanced cleaner will/can clean before usage. I do agree with Tim (MA) on the inclusion of a defrag app, actually quite good.

CCleaner Slim is available at their site: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

Yesterday I installed the regular version over the slim version and no *junk* was included. The slim version was not shown yesterday on their official website.

Wise Cleaner's "Advanced" scanner finds files like:
    *.tmp
    *.chk
    ~*.*
    *.~??
I'm not sure why the author didn't just add them to the regular scan. In any case, you can add these file patterns to CCleaner under Options > Include, to create the same effect as Wise Cleaner's Advanced scan.

What Wise Cleaner has that CCleaner does not is a "Slimming" scan that allows the user to delete things like obsolete Windows installers, Windows Help files, sample desktop wallpaper, and a few other things.

I want to be devils advocate here and say that those advanced scans as I mentioned are in depth and while majority will find them ok, the odd few may not so a regime of a backup solution as in Imaging is worth while.. JUST IN CASE!

Imaging you can do in windows dependent on the version or via 3rd parties such as my fav Acronis, but Easeus and others. do backup your important data as no app is 100% foolproof and cleaning ones less so IMHO

I couldn't agree more with DavidGP... everybody should be doing disk imaging in addition to regular file backups, especially if you intend on using aggressive registry and disk cleaners.

Disk imaging is different than simple file backup, where you copy individual files to another location without copying the important disk information and data files needed for Windows to boot (MBR, hidden system files, partition tables, etc.). With disk imaging, you make a perfect byte for byte copy of your entire disk (at least the parts that hold data) and store that image on a different drive. If your system is later rendered unbootable for any reason (malware, file deletion, registry corruption, MBR destruction, partition table skewing etc.) you will be able to use the associated boot disk to boot into a pre-Windows environment and copy your stored disk image back onto your system disk, overwriting it entirely and thereby restoring your system to the exact state it was in when the disk image was created (clean, bootable, and functional). Note that this is not the same as creating System Restore points, a process that only backs up system files and settings.

Excellent disk imaging backup programs include the following:

    AOMEI Backupper (freeware) - http://www.backup-utility.com

    Macrium Reflect (freeware) - http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/macrium_reflect_free_edition.html

Paragon Drive Backup (freeware) - http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/paragon_drive_backup.html

EaseUS ToDo Backup (freeware) - http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/easeus_todo_backup_free_edition.html

    Acronis TrueImage (shareware) - http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/acronis_true_image_home_2013.html

    NovaStor NovaBackup (shareware) - http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/novabackup.html

Note that all of these apps are fairly large downloads (50 - 220 MB) because each contains a "mini" version of an operating system (WinPE or Linux) that is used in creating the boot disk that provides the user access to their unbootable system during the image restoration phase.

First I gotta agree with David (AvonDude) ... which kinda reminds me of my uncle who has quite the collection of Avon... but anyways I would like to see the recommended picks updated more frequently as I tend to rely on those a lot.

As for the great Ccleaner vs Wise Disk Cleaner ... over the last 24-48hours I've changed up my computers (two personal and two that I manage for fiancee's parents) but I've changed all of them up to the WDC in which I have used in the past but I always had Ccleaner on my machine, but I now rely on WDC and no longer use Ccleaner.
I decided to take the plunge in making the change because of the boys at MG made the recommendation so I decided to take there advice, although while I don't always do what they suggest I did decide to take this plunge.
