I have a ASRock K7VT2 (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 SDR DIMM, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio, LAN) VIA VT8366A Apollo KT266A with VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio running Windows XP and recently i noticed that my onboard audio no longer works. I recently installed a new NIC card so i uninstalled that and found that wasnt the problem. I checked the bios and all was enabled fine and in device manager it shows no conflicts and everything appears to be fine. Ive checked that nothing is muted on my volume controls and ive even downloaded and installed different codecs/drivers, these are as follows.
    Vinyl_AudioCodec_V530c
ComboAudio_a1u320b and a Realtek Ac97 audio A359 pack (each rebooting and ive rolled back the driver when unsuccessful) Ive even tried to re-install drivers from the original motherboard cd i have and still NO SOUND!!!
I really dont know what else to try beyond buying myself a PCI sound card and using that instead. Ill list some info about my pc so maybe someone could help.
In device manager i have the following listed under sound video and game controllers.

    Audio codecs
    Legacy Audio Drivers
Realtek Ac97 audio for Via (R) Audio controller
    Legacy video capture devices
    Media Control devices
    Video codecs
    and the standard game ports.

Now it will only allow me to disable/uninstall the realtek audio controller, all the rest are Scan for changes, update or properties (all show no conflicts). My system spec is as follows.

Hello, it seems like you have covered alot of ground here. Forgive me for asking a real dumb question, do you have powered speakers and are they powered up? I was thinking maybe something got moved or accidentally unplugged???
    Good luck...

You could have accidentally damged something when you were putting in the new NIC. If this is the case, you just might have to go with a PCI sound card.
