Please help any one who can.
system runs XP home, was working perfectly until once stoped by it's self and rebooted .
Upon rebooting discovered that my Norton360 and Spybot have dissapeared, tried to do vareous antispam runs ,have discovered that my "Hide or show " hiden files in folder options have also dissapeared.
Now I can Not Install (Or Create a Slipscreaning disc of SP1 + SP2) any Program that is likely to be a help. ALL instalations are returned with following Error Message""" CreateProsses Failed:code 193.%1 is not a valid Win32 application""
On slipstreaming SP2 to XP-Home had following "The specified executable is not a valid Win32 application"(this was a gen.Windows XP service Pack 2 Disc)
Many thanks beforehand for all help.walik

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

This really does not sound like a malware problem. As such, I'm going to start by moving this to the Software Forum. If at a later time it seems like malware is involved, we can always move the thread back to malware.

Have discovered a few new things that do not work.
Windows Restore does not restore at all.
Windows Task Manager shows, when no Aplilcations or Processes
are running System Idle at 99% and Yet CPU is Running at 52-54%
What is running ?????to use such an amount of CPU resourcess???
This is a Dual boot comp.with 2 harddrives and running SP2 on C:\ and
    SP1 on D:\
Was able to Install AVG on D:\ Scanned C:|Drive and found infected file, remooving it has not helped.
Have tried remedy on this address http://www.technipages.com/error-193-1-is-not-a-valid-win32-application.html
Result :Can not locate "Service Name"
This comp.is driving me crazy can not install any anti Virus or Malware Programs in fact
downloaded Spy Doctor cliked "Run" result Short cut on desktop is not a valid short cut.
    everything I install is returned with :: ERROR 193 : %1 is not a valid Win32 Application.

Open windows explorer and see if you have a file named program in the root directory. If so, remove it. (There should be no C:\program entry)
Next run regedit and drill down to
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command
in the right pane you should see
    (Default) under name
    REG_SZ under type and
    "%1"%* under data

    Thanks Chaslang!
so you think this is not a malware problem??? than can you please explain to me as to why my C:\ drive has done following:::::::
attempt to virus check on trend-micro after 4 hours being on was unsucsessful ,the same results where at Symantec website.
downloading latest AVG free was CORRUPT.
the same has happened to Spybot Download.
I have an old version(without updates) of "AVG" can not install on C:\ Drive
error "not a leg. Win32 file etc" yet on "D:\ drive it installed perfectly but i can not update it because my "D Drive" is only a DAW (digital Audio workstation) and has no internet etc.
PS<<<<<<< Have done what plodr has sugested.
there was an entry "\program" have remooved it (result was my Cannon disc-print stoped working) and in "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\opecomand in the right pane there is (Default) REG_SZ and %1 indata.
Thanks again to all for helping.
It looks to me that whatever the bug is the only way i may get rid of it is to do a clean install of windows.

Since that is not correct, the value should be changed to
    Code:
    "%1"%*

Your first message sounded less like malware. Addition posts do sound similar to some recent problems related to particular malware. I suggest that you do the below and I will move this thread back to malware so that I can track it easier. If the requested logs do not show the suspect malware, I will move it back to Software again. ;)

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions. Please try to run ALL steps. If a particular step does not work, write down exactly what happens and explain it to us later but keep on going thru all steps. If a particular program does not run in normal boot mode then after finishing all steps of the READ & RUN ME, boot into safe mode and retry the program.
