xp boot display, machine freeze at boot

    Is there a way to make XP pro display everything it's loading
    ( like ME did) I'm trying to find out what is making my machine
    freeze at boot up I have a feeling it is hardware dying.:(

    does it get to the desktop/login at all? or is it just freezing completley? if windows fails to boot the next time it should give you a menu which will include step-by-step (i think?) if thats what you mean. If you mean it pauses for a long time, try bootvis.

    During boot up, just after the POST screen, press F8. This will bring up a boot menu. Select the option for step-by-step (I cant remember its exact title) and it will list the programs loading before the OS kicks in.

    If you are having problems AFTER the OS kicks in, then once the OS has succesfully loaded, click START -> Run -> then type msconfig

    This will bring up a window. Click the Startup Tab and it will display all programs started by Windows.
