    Hi,

Only the two PCs are to be linked up.

I disabled the windows firewall, but the PCs can't see each other. The weird thing is that the 2000 PC can see itself on the network, but the XP one cannot.

    XP Machine:
    AMD 1800+ XP
    256MB DDR400 RAM
    120 Gig Seagate HDD
ASRock mobo (dunno model - sorry).

    2000 Machine:
    600 Mhz CPU
    192 MB SDRAM
    30 Gig Seagate HDD
    Dunno what mobo.

Please assist in getting this silly eternet setup to work.

    Thanks.

If what you mean is the two computers are connected together with a switch or cross over cable here are some things to try.

    1. Make sure XP went through the "Set up a small home of office" wizard. For what ever reason, unless XP does this, you WILL have problems.

    2. Make sure both computers are on the same workgroup, ie same name

    3. If the XP machine is XP Home...........give it up and pay for the upgrade.

    4. Make sure that you are assigning the proper IP and subnet. If you have both set up for DHCP then windows will kick in and assign one for you. Something like 169.254.X.X, that is called the APIPA (automatic private IP adress)

    5. If you think all the above is OK then PING, PING, PING! if you can ping then you should be able to see the other computer. If not, try typing //computername in Windows explorer and see what happens.

    good luck
