A domain is a collection of network resources, space, printers, etc, and managed by a centralized user/resource database. Requiring login to the domain.

Workgroups are a collection of resources but there is no centeralized management or workgroup login.

A domain server contains the user/resource database and acknowledges logins.

A DNS server resolves domain names (www.complete-cs.com) into IP addresses which are unique to every computer on the Internet and the method by which they are able to communicate with each other.
