I found your guides to help with Google redirect problem and have followed them as best I could. I've been having this problem for a few weeks now and the only thing I can think of that may have caused it is via facebook and all those lovely tantalizing links various people provide. I am aware that this is dangerous and will not be so swayed in the future. I promise! I also have noticed adwords all over my webpages leading to various links...is this a virus/malware thing, can I get rid of this too?

I have a Dell machine running XP, 32 bit. I followed the Google redirect advice first, then the RUN & READ ME FIRST here are my logs. Minus one which is in the next post.

    Thank you for your help!

    What is this?

C:\Documents and Settings\Heather\temp_%1%2 <--- delete if you do not know.

    Delete these if you can:

    • C:\Documents and Settings\Heather\Local Settings\Application Data\a.zip
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Heather\Local Settings\Application Data\BcsKtYcHW.dll
    • C:\Program Files\Enigma Software Group

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • O3 - Toolbar: Somoto Toolbar - {652853ad-5592-4231-88c6-706613a52e61} - C:\Program Files\somototoolbar\vmntemplateX.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

If you do not use Windows Messenger Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

I have MSE and turned off real time protection. I have Spybot and already disabled the teatimer, is that sufficient? I also have the Malwarebytes trial version that has no realtime protection. Let me know if I need to do more.

C:\Documents and Settings\Heather\temp_%1%2 - that is an Amazon Kindle Installer...I kept it, but not sure I need it anymore.

Deleted these & then emptied recycle bin too:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Heather\Local Settings\Application Data\a.zip
    C:\Documents and Settings\Heather\Local Settings\Application Data\BcsKtYcHW.dll
    C:\Program Files\Enigma Software Group

Still getting a new tab pop up when i search in google. Still also getting adwords.

Thanks for your help so far!

We are going to be uninstalling your old version of FireFox (except please use Revo Uninstaller rather than the standard uninstaller itself.) and installing the new version. So do the below to save bookmarks:

    • Run FireFox and click Bookmarks.
    • Then select Organize Bootmarks.
    • Then on the next window click File and then select Export. Save the bookmarks.html file to your Desktop for later use in importing.

Now download and save the installer for the current version of FireFox but DO NOT install it yet. Get it here

You will need to exit FireFox now and use Internet Explorer to continue with the below until we reinstall FireFox.

Start by uninstalling FireFox and then reboot. Do not skip the reboot.
After reboot, delete the below folders:
    • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    • C:\documents and settings\UserAccount\Application Data\Mozilla

where UserAccount is the actual user account name being used.

Now reinstall FireFox from the file previously downloaded.
Import your bookmarks file. (similar process to exporting).

    Any change?

    Followed your directions...

That seemed to work (no redirect or adwords in firefox), but now IE is doing the popup redirect window for google/bing. Don't see adwords on IE though.

Can I uninstall and reinstall for IE like I did for firefox?

    Download OTL to your desktop.

    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • Vista and Windows 7 users Right-click OTL and choose Run as Administrator)
    • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
    • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
    • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

Attach both of these logs into your next reply.

[IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Run this and attach the results.

    Using ESET's Online Scanner

I have tried multiple times using Internet Explorer today to see if I could get the redirect to happen and it won't. So that's fixed now.

What was happening was when I searched in google or bing the results would come up and when I'd click on a link a new search window would open. The new window had a search box with various links below it. I never clicked on them so I don't know what would happen next.

I also check Firefox for the redirect and adwords today many times and I can't get that to happen either.

So it looks like you've solved the problems!

I'm glad everything is running nicely for you again. ;)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Press and hold the Windows key [IMG] and then press the letter R on your keyboard. This opens the Run dialog box.
      • Copy and paste the below into the Run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    5. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove, you can delete these files now.
    8. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
