first off, I'm just a dumb banjo player who was foolish enough to let other musicians use my computer. if I seem like a moron, forgive me, I am trying to learn.
the problem I noticed that led me here(after some bad detours) was random browser launches, and clicking google search links that would lead me to different pages.
I have AVG free on my computer(older dell dimension4550-please don't laugh, it's all I have) running XP home. I primarily use my computer to upload my music(until the mixer/cdrom issue), maintain a dozen free musicians sites, and network on facebook, myspace, and yahoo messenger.
and I use the malwarebytes scanner. I had been trying different AV programs after countless problems with norton.
I found major geeks from a link on the kim komando page after trying "spyware terminator" with bad results(my cdrom won't read or burn) and the audio mixer (volume control) for my soundblaster live seems to be missing.
as a dumb musician, I did my best to follow the read me run thread, combo fix was the only thing that seemed to fail to operate, after 10 hours I shut it down and moved on.
after the windows cleaning procedure the thread asks "still having problems?" so I did some random google searches and the links seemed to work normally.
I can't seem to find the SASlog.txt anywhere(tried the start menu search function as well)
    here is the malwarebytes log:

I guess my two questions are: what should I do next? and should I start a thread on the topic of my soundcard and cdrom(both worked fine until I used "spyware terminator" prior to finding major geeks.com) I will do whatever you suggest to the best of my abilities. the readme run thread had me change some things on my computer, and I have left them changed, other than re-enabling my firewall and AVG. one thing I can say for a fact, is that I will never let anyone use my computer again.

Please attach all requested logs instead of posting them inline.

    Your SAS log is here:
    Code:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\george\Application Data\SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware\Logs\"
    supera~1.log Jul 29 2010 2094 "SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log - 07-29-2010 - 23-45-43.log"
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract+ avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * -Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\Avenger.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

I just ran the avenger program, and it said "no rootkits found" do I still create the fixME.reg file?

hmmm..I should mention that I tried to copy this into the script box, and I was prompted that it was not a script.
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1CB20BF0-BBAE-40A7-93F4-6435FF3D0411} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: G1.GZ - {79C03BC5-6C55-4B5B-921F-C02B6F1ABD7B} - C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\Pribi\Pribi.dll (file missing)
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
so I ran the scan with the script box empty, then I realized the second box had this:
    Files to delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\george\Local Settings\Temp\cpjlvc.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\george\Local Settings\Temp\fla34.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\george\Local Settings\Temp\fla35.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\george\Local Settings\Temp\fmmqqp.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\george\Local Settings\Temp\fppdcp.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\george\Local Settings\Temp\jcjxjb.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\george\Local Settings\Temp\skndwt.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\george\Local Settings\Temp\ztntbq.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\george\Local Settings\Temp\zvdnxh.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\11d38a5f-2184-432f-b022-9cb210862535

    Folders to delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\george\Local Settings\Application Data\fqnlpbhwh
    C:\Documents and Settings\george\Local Settings\Application Data\itngvtoov
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\11d38a5f-2184-432f-b022-9cb210862535

should I rerun avenger with the second text copied into the script? sorry, I misunderstood these directions

Yes, still do the fixMe reg fix. I will look at your other logs presently.

You need to run HJT to fix these:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1CB20BF0-BBAE-40A7-93F4-6435FF3D0411} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: G1.GZ - {79C03BC5-6C55-4B5B-921F-C02B6F1ABD7B} - C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\Pribi\Pribi.dll (file missing)
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

Then run avenger and input the script I gave you.

this was avenger's reply to the scan, I see the word "error" which seemed concerning, do I still run the fix?

I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove everything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and definitely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

However, your logs are clean. I suggest you post in the software or hardware forum for you other issues.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
