Since this morning all our Windows XP systems are showing 3 automatic updates for .Net Framework 2.0: KB2518864, KB2572073, KB2633880
As soon as the update is complete, all three immediately show up again. There are several large topics regarding this out on the Internet, but so far no solution has come to light. (Some Microsoft blogs repeatedly say that the issue has been resolved.) |

And just while I was typing the above, the updates suddenly disappeared.
They also don't show up on Microsoft Update any more. (But they also don't show under updates in Control Panel.) My guess is that they have been withdrawn by Microsoft. |

There is a Microsoft Fixit offered via a popup at the article titled Windows Update or Microsoft Update repeatedly offers the same update I ran the fix several times. Also downloaded the updates and ran each individually as suggested, both after a normal boot and in Safe Mode. Two of the updates eventually disappeared from the update notice. Finally, just about thirty minutes ago, after a couple more tries, the last one, KB2633880, also disappeared. I checked the Update History and saw that each of the updates had been successfully installed at least Five Times. The Fix routine said it found an error in an Update Component every time I ran it and repaired it each time. ![]() What a pain, and a big waste of time. Sure would like to know what happened. ![]()

I wait at least a week before I try to install any .NET updates. It is almost a certainty that there will be problems rather than a smooth install.

Yesteday, after another "download &install" of KB2518864, KB2572073, KB2633880, my yellow shild appear agaim ... :-( .
I find somewhere something easily to do that work for me (after a pretty long search) : I install, through the "Windows update" web page, a minor update (non High-Priority Updates, picked from either Optional Software Updates or Optional Hardware Updates, whatever you like ). After a restart, either yesterday or today (about 3 hours since my PC start) the update message show. Hope that will work for you. |
