In IE, if I type in a website like www.google.com, the bottom left hand progress report will say "Looking up www.google.com", go blank, then say "Looking up EIMG.net". Nothing appears below the tool bar as a web page. I found your site through a Google search and specifically the threadhttp://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=107257. Interesting.

I downloaded LSP-fix but the dll file was not listed to be removed. Looking further through the thread I found a recant and suggestion of a whole bunch of steps to take using HighJackThis to clean up some files. Seeing that the HighJackThis log file for that individual was definitely different from mine, I downloaded HighJackThis and created my own log file which I have attempted to attach.

I'm using XP SP-2. Linksys router.

This computer worked fine until a security tech, installing a security system, made some changes to the computer.

    Thanks for our help!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

This is not a malware problem. You have allow Earthlink (your ISP I assume) to change your default start page and search program to theirs.

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://start.earthlink.net/AL/Search

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://start.earthlink.net/AL/Search

eimg.net is EarthLink. It's possible that you are blocking this in your TrendMicro Firewall.

So, if I direct IE to go to google.com and the progress line at the bottom left hand corner of the screen first says www.google.com, then www.EIMG.NET, but the page remains blank, my firewall, my MicroTrend Firewall, is preventing the loading of both pages?

Potentially yes! Try shutting it down and see what happens.

You're welcome. Then you need to allow the processes thru your firewall since you cannot leave your firewall disabled.
