bios in chinese

Hi guys, been trouble shooting a friends HP pavilion s3714uk with a black screen with a flashing line up the top left. I couldn't get any of the F buttons to work on boot so I've removed every component and replaced and still the same. So I pulled out the battery and left it for a while now I can get in to the bios but it's in Chinese (I think).

Any idea how I can change it to English or am I going to have to flash it?

Running Vista Home with phoenix award bios.

try to identify the motherboard vendor and model number if you can

And if you can please try to take a picture of the Bios screen so that we can see what you are kinda talking about.

 

There is likely a button you can press to get into the BIOS "setup" page where you will be allowed to change the language... Finding that button is the key lol.


That or flash.

Well I've had a look and can't see those signs anywhere!!!

 

Have you tried scrolling to the right or left with your arrow keys to get to the next menu in the BIOS?


Also, it might not have an option to set the language (was it English before???) and you may have to do a BIOS update.

 

Yes it's the same sort of thing on every screen.

The screen where you get the option to press the F buttons was in English before but now that has changed to Chinese as well.

 

Arrow down to the third entry (above WDC) and see if the left/right arrow keys or space bar give you language choices.

 

Of course not; your menu is in Japanese, not Chinese!

 

Anyway, it was a good idea to post that photo.

The language setting is right under the (incorrect) date:
言語 (language) ... [日本語] (Japanese)

Set it to 英語 (or maybe English).
